I have an account with RBS, I have a cash card.

I need to be able to buy things online so I need a debit/solo/switch type card.

I went in branch and asked for one but they say I need to have a regular wage going in :/

I get ema and get paid in cash.

any advice?

How old are you? I'm guessing since you're talking about EMA then under 18. RBS only have 2 types of card, cashline and highline (maestro). To apply for a highline card, you have to be 18+, and then you just ask the branch to fill in the application for you. They won't give you it without regular money going into the account, as it's possible to go overdrawn on a maestro, so they want proof you have the money to use it.

When I was too young to get a proper debit card, I had a second bank account with HBoS as they did solo cards at the time, and it's much easier to get one of those.

Try another bank, the best ones are online. Nationwide are good if you have them in your town. Ideally you want to go with a bank that isnt going to load charges on you for going a couple of quid into the red so now is the time to put some thought into this while its fairly hassle free
