Banned from steam

Hi,

My brother is annoyed because he found he could not join online games, due the cheating. And now his steam account informs him he has been cheating when he logs on. He has checked on the website and apparently this will not be reversed, and his online gaming is effectively over.

Only thing is... he has not been cheating. He runs a server on HL2 DM called 1a Vipsters that was going quite well. Infact he was playing it hapily tonight.

Any ideas, it not really acceptable paying for a game your not able to use.

Only thing I can think of is complain.

I'm pretty sure Valve NEVER unban. His only solution is to format his PC to make sure all the cheats are gone, make a new account and purchase the games again.

If I was a betting man I would have to say your Bro was cheating, whatever he says.

He has been VAC banned.

I don't care what you say, he has not been cheating, fact. He is not a spotty teenager, and doesn't take it all too seriously, plus he runs a server gaining regular members etc.

His games had been crashing, so he uninstalled and reinstalled all games tonight. Thats the only thing he can think of that would trigger this.

I'm pertty sure he must have some legal right, whatever their policy is. He has spent a fair bit of money on that account. I'm thinking MD complaint? Who is the MD of steam?

I've been using it for two or three years now and never had a problem with it, maybe the odd connection problem here and there, nothing major.

I agree with Sniffy though, Valve would only ban you if they found cheats.

Theres only one thing. He was not cheating. Therefore you are wrong.

There is another expanation, end of. I have told him to contact steam support, failing that we will go complaints route.

I work in complaint I know MD complains get results.

Been using anything that hooks into any of the files?. Something like direct X tweaker to force triple buffer as that will get you banned. Anything that hooks into the files will.

HE said he server had been acting strang. Crashing. But the server is not connected with his steam account, as the server is based in london somewhere indepentantly.

I asked him about mod and keyloggers. His antivirus is up to date and there are no mods. If VAC is 100% accurate... there has to be some explanation?

He basically played exclusively on HL2 DM on his own server. He had amin rights (as did i) and could ban / punish / change setting in game. Could this have anything to do with it?

Doubt it, thats all server side controlled, not user.

Personally I'd ask for a log of what they found.

Well has he been downloading skins for levels,guns,people and such? Some of these skins can contain hidden hacks and install themselves without the persons knowlage.

Server will have nothing to do with it , kick & ban etc can be done by rcon or one of the various admin mods nothing odd there. If Vac has banned him then something that shouldn't have been was running.

I asked him, he said nope. Only has changed the skin on steam (it came with steam)

I think he's just going to start another account and install HL2 DM as thats all he plays. Recons it's £5 well spent....

Personally this sort of thing annoys me but he's more chilled...

So he's been banned from playing online? But he could still play single player? For some reason my steam account has been completely disabled. I can't even play single player games. And I definitely haven't cheated, used fake credit cards or anything like that. There is no legitimite reason for my account to be disabled.

VAC will not ban you unless it detects a cheat installed on your system. No matter what you say, and you can say it all day long for all I care, there WAS a cheat on his system or he would not have been banned.

I'm not saying he was cheating, or that he even knew it was there at all - but it was, and sadly there is not much you can do about it. I've yet to hear a single case of Valve unbanning an account.
