Banned from steam

Well considering he can;t be arsed to even contact customer service or complain, then i'm not going to help an further.

However if it was my account banned for no reason, i sure as hell would get it unbanned.

Nice you know people are 100% certain VAC is fool proof and are not even willing to consider there has been some sort of error here. I feel your pain Psyk.

If your Bro wasn't using any programs like Armadillo mentioned (anything that would hook into the HL2.exe), he had cheats on his system. Say it all you like mate, it really doesn't change anything.

Find out from your Bro if he used any programs like that as that is the only explanation if he wasn't cheating, which you seem so sure about (strange he isn't very annoyed about his account being banned for no reason). His account won't get unbanned though.

My original solution is the only real option IMO.

Nice you know people are 100% certain VAC is fool proof and are not even willing to consider there has been some sort of error here.

People are just saying he was using something that hooked into the HL2.exe. There is no question something on his PC was hooking into the HL2.exe, if that was a cheat or an entirely program is another question.

Edit

The fact he could give his account details out didn't occur to me as I imagine the OP would have mentioned it. Well if he done that, it's a no brainer.

2 reasons he could have been banned.

a) He has been using cheats.
b) Someone has been playing using his account.

Either way it will not get reversed. It also sounds like he has been VAC banned which would have probably happened a week or so ago as VAC does not ban straight away. It lets the little kidders think they have got away with it first. :p :)

If I was you Id tell your bro to format his computer before he buys a new valve game ;)

i only play on my own servers and spend my time booting out idiots that swear camp and all the other crap that you get

my 2 servers cost me over £50 a month for people to come and play on them for free

you would be suprised at the amount of bandwith used!!!

i have bought well over £100 of steams games e.g the ship, garrys mod and lots more and now are all scrap

it seems like its in there best financial interest to keep killing peoples accounts because they will come back and buy it again to keep there gaming habbit going

im using pants account with no changes to my files or anything so if his account gets nuked then its somthing on my computer and both accounts are in the cr@p

if it gets nuked then i'l rest my left bollock on the table and hand you a hammer and let you hit it

only thing i can think of is that i have been overclocking and playing while the computer is unstable and the game has been acting verry sterange and geting the BSOD while playing so could this mess up the files and be detected as modified files even though its file corouption?

i would bet my left bollock (or right one) that there vac servers rely on a simple crc check of some files and if it dont match then ban

VAC does CRC check files, so this could possibly be the case. They still will not unban the account though.

Do people still overclock these days? :)

Hi,

My brother is annoyed because he found he could not join online games, due the cheating. And now his steam account informs him he has been cheating when he logs on. He has checked on the website and apparently this will not be reversed, and his online gaming is effectively over.

Only thing is... he has not been cheating. He runs a server on HL2 DM called 1a Vipsters that was going quite well. Infact he was playing it hapily tonight.

Any ideas, it not really acceptable paying for a game your not able to use.

Only thing I can think of is complain.

Cheers,

Ant.

I'm sure Valve hear "I wasn't cheating, there must be something on my PC that I didn't know about" every single day.

I'm not saying you cheated on purpose, I'm just saying that I doubt Valve will believe you.

And therein lies the problem. One of the projects I help with on and off is the UTAN ban management system, we do pretty much the same thing as VAC banning does for Steam for Unreal Tournament 2004, and the sheer number of people who say "it was a virus, it was my brother, it was my cousin" is just mad. Valve probably can't accept such excuses and have to take the stance that whatever happens to an account is the responsibility of the user whos account it is. If they didn't they would pretty much be ineffective as they'd end up unbanning every single person who was banned and queried it.

Also, VAC bans aren't instant, it can be several months after detection that the ban is put in place. So whatever happened could have happened a long time ago, perhaps your brother went to a friends house and used the Steam account there?

By your little brother do you mean you? Pants? :p

Look mate, VAC does not ban unless there are cheats installed. It doesn't matter whether he takes the game seriously or not. Perhaps he lent his steam to a friend and he got it banned as someone mentioned. Let me say it again VAC does not ban unless cheats are installed.

Half the time VAC doesnt ban even when cheats are installed. I remember playing CS:S, there was always a regular stream of idiots logging on with various speed hacks and wall hacks etc, they never got banned.

VAC is hardly perfect, and to be honest, it doesnt surprise me that somebody has been banned for cheating even though they havent.

I'm not saying he was cheating, or that he even knew it was there at all - but it was, and sadly there is not much you can do about it. I've yet to hear a single case of Valve unbanning an account.

Oh will you get off your high horse! Computer systems are extremely falable and promptly go wrong all the time. The amount of times I've gone to Blockbusters and they haven't been able to find my address, or they've said I've still got a film which I've already returned just goes to show that computer systems are not always correct.

There's any reason why he could have been banned - and I refuse to be told otherwise by some random person on a computer forum who thinks he knows everything about a system which he didn't create, design or maintain.

He has been VAC banned.

I don't care what you say, he has not been cheating, fact. He is not a spotty teenager, and doesn't take it all too seriously, plus he runs a server gaining regular members etc.

His games had been crashing, so he uninstalled and reinstalled all games tonight. Thats the only thing he can think of that would trigger this.

You need to be a spotty teanage to like playing games a lot......right. You also need to be a spotty teanager to want to cheat........right.

My guess is he tried something out on his server, maybe to assist in catching other cheats - I don't know.

Wooohooo i am a spotty teenage 41 year old :p

Gutted for your Bro mate.
As has been said VAC don't go back on Bans.
All he can do is buy it again and be more careful. Sounds like someone else has had access to his account to me and probably one of his clan or online mates an all. Friends are great aren't they.
