Go view before you bid.

Simples.

Only a fool would commit to buying something with contact having not checked the condition personally.
But that would mean a visit to Leeds

I have just had a look at the advert on eBay; I am fascinated to see that the "Gentleman" in question has a "100% Positive feedback"; So much for eBay feedback ;)

How would you suggest Caveat Emptor applies with regards to Section 13 of the Sale of Goods Act 1979 which applies to private sales such as this one? The buyer of that car would have easily had redress under this section. Caveat Emptor is nothing more than an old common law doctrine which has been superseded by numerous statutes.

In any such case, a buyer has far more legal protection when they don't inspect the car at all.

Good luck trying to take a private seller of a £2,400 Skoda to the small claims court and successfully winning your money back.

Meh, I bought a car with dodgy piston rings not long ago, it was advertised as being fine, doctored no doubt (no sign of issues for a whole 4 days after I bought it).

Danny, what you did sucks. People like you make the prospect of buying a second hand car a lot more difficult than it should be, if it were up to me you would be banned from the forum.

Ass.
