pfffft, too little too late imho.

Do remember that INTEL took about 2 years to beat AMD. Though if it cant compete against penryn then yes it will a be too little too late.

I think price is going to play a big part in this, if AMD out perform intel in the same way as the a64 x2 did the pentium d then AMD may shoot themselves in the foot by putting a premium on the chips, like the original dual core days.

But having said that Intel could do the same with Penryn

I know this is very vague and broad and there are a lot of exceptions but..

Corporate companies usually went with Intel and gamers/enthusiasts went with AMD.
The thing that worries me is that now BOTH gamers and businesses etc are going with Intel. Regardless of if you're an AMD or Intel fan you need both of these companies to stay in business because if there's only one you get a monopoly (very bad for consumer :P)

Yer Intel said that if AMD went under then sunbeam would provide competetion, to stop them getting in trouble with the law.

Sorry to ask the stupid question, but is there an expected date on these barcelona chips? Can anyone give a good guess to which month?

Planning my upgrade around Sept/Oct time, so hoping for a nice selection!

I think intel will still top amd

what gives you that idea, no quantitive evidence to go on, just blind faith? or something else? cause as far as im aware as said above even the 'old' K8 architecture isn't much behind intels core architecture, so if you know something i don't, please share...

That only started when they released the 939 Opterons that didn't need ECC RAM. I think they did that on purpose to drop the entry costs for the server centric Opterons, of course it had a kick back effect in that it gave us nice cool AMD64's to play with in 939 desktops as well :D

All sounds rather promising, going to hold off till these new chips arrive to see what happens. Really hope AMD come up with something special to get them back up there.
