Barclaycard - anyone else getting tired of their security?

This has happend to me every now and again. The last time I was buying my current rig from OCuK, but at the same time buying expensive software from another site. Must not have liked large sums of money coming out of the account by two different retailers. A quick phone call sorted it out, but I can imagine it being worst when buying your weekly shopping etc, since it takes them about an hour to reactivate the card.

I've had my Barclaycard put on hold 3 times in the last year, all of which required a long phone call to verify charges and get the card re-activated when nothing was amiss.

They did, however, manage to miss a fraudelent O2 top-up until I saw it on the statement and reported it!

I'd jump to a.n.other CC vendor like a shot, if my application wouldn't be rejected due to having no current employment :(

Bah.... Barclaycard...

Last year:
Prior to going to Japan, and knowing their security, I phoned BCard to tell them I'd be out of the country for three weeks, expect unusual purchases, flights, insurance, currency, etc. All ok they said, duly noted.

Later that day I try to buy some Yen. Card declined. Phone Bcard again. Oh yes, they say, that was flagged as unusual and potential fraud. Yes, despite the fact that you told us about it beforehand. Please hold to talk to our fraud desk. Fraud desk. Ok, we've cleared your card.

Right. An hour or so later, I try again.

Card declined.

Phone BCard again. No, it's not us blocking it. It must be the seller.

Phone seller. Nope, BCard wouldn't authorise your purchase.

Phone BCard again. Oh, let me connect you to the fraud desk. Hello? Oh yes, we have some suspicious activity noted on your card. I've cleared if for you. You should be ok now.

Try buying Yen again. Card declined.

Phone BCard again. Back to fraud desk. Hmmm, oh yes, they cleared your fraud flags, but there's one that's still there, from about midday for ****pay. [Quick Google of ***pay - it's the credit card name of the company I'm buying Yen from]. I tell them that's the transaction that I phoned them about in the first place! They say it's definitely cleared this time.

Try again. Declined. This time it's the currency seller because of so many failed attempts, they now flag my card as fraud...

It's now 5pm and I can't buy the currency in time to be certain of getting it before going away.

Next day go into the local Barclay's branch to take out the cash to take to the post office to buy it the old-fashioned way. Oh no, says the woman, we can't let you have that much cash. Bank policy.

Look, I say, the only reason I need this cash in the first place is because... whole story.

She looks sheepish, talks to her superior, and gives me the cash.

And the only time I tried to use my Bcard on that holiday it was declined....

I don't use it anymore.

It's annoying for sure but it's either that or do nothing and maybe let a potential fraudster get away with scamming your card

I got annoyed on my last holdiay to Thailand as I had notified the card company in advance yet I still got bombarded with calls because the card was being used in Thailand

My Barclaycard got blocked once trying to buy a laptop online. Apart from that I have no issues with using it either here or abroad.

Yes, its not just the card and security though.

I get paid by cheque, the accounts have the same sort code and are with the same branch yet its just started taking 3-4 days to clear, the result is im still waiting to place my OC order!!

Plus the phone me up most times i make a payment to Steam or another online pc company. Ive ok'd it 3 times just let the payment go through!!

I get that it's supposed to help me but they don't seem to use any common sense at all. I don't see why my card should be stopped for trying to buy things from OCUK 3 times in a row. They can see my purchase history. They can see it's not out of the normal. I already had to put in all my card details AND use the "verify by visa" and then they stop the damn thing anyway.

It's SUCH a pain in the rear end to get in unblocked as well i have to pass a security check just to be transfered to the fraud department who security check me AGAIN.

There also seems to be no consitancy at all. Someone got hold of my dads details and managed to sign up to sky even though we've been with NTL / Virgin for years and buy stuff all over the country and they didn't stop it until they had already processed the payments.

I buy and pay for everything online (lot of transactions) and have to unlock my cards at least once a month.
The security questions don't work either

Bank : "What store did you spend £xx at in September 09?"
Me : "It could be anyone of 30+ stores I use, can you ask me something else?"
Bank : ”Sorry we can’t help you then”

Last January I tried to buy a computer monitor which was going for a very good price. My card was blocked and in between getting it enabled again, the product went out of stock and I ended up having to pay £40 more for the same item at the next cheapest store - grrrrrrr :mad:

It 's the same with my Lloyds TSB card :(

Had my card blocked a few months ago when i tryed to pay for something on ocuk and one the questions i answered didn't match there data

Took about 6 phone calls and god knows how long to get my card unblocked

What annoyed us is that before going on honeymoon my wife specifically informed her bank that we were going. Used debit card to get some cash out and then got a phonecall from the fraud department. Problem being, as we were in Australia, just receiving that call on a mobile and going over some details for a few minutes ended up costing her like £8.
