Barclays PINsentry

I have one... it's not really an annoyance actually, it makes logging in online a lot easier. I only ever log in at home, and I don't have to go through the whole "count how many letters in this character is" thing with secret words etc.

with barclays you still need to go through all that Rivey. BarclaysPINsentry is a new thing that you get shown when you make a transaction with your debit/credit card.

Nah, I have to use it just to log into my Barclays Online account.

Just wanna make sure that this isn't the mother of all scams taking place :( :p

Haha brilliant! :D

I've stopped using my Barclays account now because of it. Since having access to the internet anywhere on my phone I've just done my banking whenever I've needed to, but now I'd have to carry round a calculator if I wanted to go somewhere for longer than a couple of days. Yes it is a nice idea but it was forced upon me and I was happy with the security arrangements before it came along.

Do you need it to login to the Barclays site? (i'm still using the old method).
I thought it was just for setting up new outgoing payments.

This was something that entered my head as well. It just seems a pain the arse that you have to carry a pin machine with me everywhere.

I think it depends on your account type, or maybe only some branches are offering it for now. If I did all my banking from home then I'd love it... but that isn't the case.

With the "more secure" online transactions, do you still have to wait the 3-5 days it normally took, or is it instant?

Just to clarify:

You have to use PINSentry to login every time, and you also have to use it when you want to make a payment. You press Identify and enter your PIN when you go to login, and you enter the account number of the person you're paying, how much you're paying and press Sign when you want to make a payment.

I have one. And naturally since I clicked the 'yes, I have received my Pin Sentry device' button I have had to use it every time I logged in/made a transaction to a new recipient etc.

Hmm, I'm not overly pleased, because now I have to carry this plastic lump with me wherever I intend to use on-line banking (thus removing the convenience). But I suppose I'd rather that than be scamm0red.

I have an RBS one but only need it for payments via online banking.

And you have to slide in your debit card and enter the pin and it gives you a code to enter.

No, it's a pain in the backside as you have to do everything twice!!:(

To make a payment you enter details as you would previously had done except now you have to go through the process again via the Pinsentry to"identify" with you card and then "sign" that you want to make the payment.....or in other words re-enter all the info you only had to do once previously......more for their benefit than ours I think.

I got mine a week or so ago.
I like the principle of it, as in theory it is very secure, however the practicality of it is a nightmare. Last thing I want to do it take the calculator with me all the time (I often do a bit of banking at work on a lunchtime). At the least they should have issues each account holder with two of these things.

If you are making recurring payments though, you can set it to only need the PIN the first time, like I have done with my credit card details and rent payment details.

Haven't received mine yet, but my sister has and to be quite honest, it will probably make me move banks. I am annoyed that it is so large, especially when the HSBC business banking security device is keyring-sized. Why couldn't Barclays do this? Surely the issue of carrying around something that size was brought up during development?

It might be ok for people who carry a bag with them wherever they go, but for those who don't it's a real pain. I log into my online banking service quite regularly from different places, and I'm sure I'm not the only one on here irritated by this new device.
