Barclays PINsentry

had mine a couple of months - and its so annoying.

Cant log into bank at work now etc :(

Andy

Not according to the web site it isn't

They say that there is a 'Forgotten Your Card Reader' link that goes back to the traditional method of authentication for online banking.

This does not apply for business accounts though.

I would copy and paste the exact wording, but for some bizarre-I'm-not-going-to-be-accessible reason they have done all the questions and answers in flash !

Just noticed you can do it the "old" way, but it won't accept my bloody details!

Luckily I only log onto online banking at home, but I could see this being really annoying if I wanted to bank on the move.

Sorry for the thread revival. But I have just had to upgrade to this on my online banking. Bloody typical when I urgently need to make a payment. God knows what my Telephone Banking membership number is either. Why is everything so bloody complicated?

I now have to carry this bloody pin reader thing around in case I need to make a payment to someone when I am not at home.

My girlfriend had to get one of these for her Barclays account which meant I couldn't check her account (with her permission of course) :(!. She's now moved to another bank :).

A major PITA for me and the missus - we have a joint account, and for some reason the pin sentry nonsense (Natwest) will only recognise her card - so I can login etc, but can't make a payment to anyone without using her card. Also means I can't do anything useful unless I've got this bloomin calculator with me - whoever thought of this device REALLY didn't consider if it would actually be usable or not.

I got one sent to me for my business account (no option) and its not too much hassle. It is a pita for my personal account though, it doesn't always bloomin give me the right code!!!!

You can phone up and get removed from the pinsentry system and use the classic system to check accounts, but I think they cancel the facility to send cash as "it's no longer secure"... I'd love to tell you all but I changed 2 months ago and I'm still waiting for my details to come through, despite requesting them a few times both online and over the phone. Awful customer service.

Is the online access only registered in her name? If so thats the reason. Online banking works off the individual, not the account. So for example if you set it up for youself and had various accounts in your name and one joint account you could see all of these accounts. Even if you only have one joint account technically you should still set up individual access for each of you. Its a violation of the terms and conditions to allow someone else to use your online loggin details. True, nobody really cares, especially if its a joint account, but that is probably why you are having that situation. If you set up your own access then you would get your own loggin details and card reader and could therefore make payments without the need for your wifes card. Of course if you already have 2 different sets of login details, one for each of you then it is obviously a system fault which should be raised with the bank. Whether they will do anything about it is another matter.

Thanks for that - didn't realise we both needed our own login for online banking - I'll give them a call and see what I can do with regards to getting my own login.

This was something that entered my head as well. It just seems a pain the arse that you have to carry a pin machine with me everywhere.

its one of those things, it does make it harder for people to gain access. But the people that might have been getting into accounts were getting into the accounts of flat out retarded people who gave their info out to fake e-mails asking for them, or dodgey friends/family. Having to have that pin thing with you at all times is beyond ridiculous so now I can only really access banking from home which has made it a hell of a lot less useful now. Plus its one more thing to keep in a draw/desk that when you misplace it will take ages to get a replacement most likely.

If people are stupid enough to give out info without a single clue who they are giving the info out to, they frankly deserve to be ripped off. Common sense, random person walks up to you in street asks for your addy, pin number and secret password you wouldn't hand it out. But if someone sends you an e-mail asking the same thing, sure, here you go. Just how stupid are some people.

Now I am annoyed. I thought you only needed it for setting up new payments. Nope!! I need it every time I bloody login to my online banking!?! I don't plan on carrying what looks like a calculator everywhere with me, so now I can't check my online banking unless I am at home.

Bloody useless thing. I think I'll be moving to another bank. Who is good?

When I see it written pinsentry - I read it as something else. Freud would probably have something to say.

Llyods have been alright for me so far.

Although I'm locked out of my account till I ring them tomorrow since I forgot the security word so couldn't say what it's 5,6 and 8th letters/numbers were :/

You can still get into your account if you don't have it with you, look carefully at the login page, there are links to do it.

Are they in the process of sending these out to everyone or do you have to opt in or something? Reason I ask is that I have not had one yet, or even a letter saying they are sending one so I still login the same way as I always have.
