Barebones systems: What exactly comes with them?

Integrated graphics by the looks of it as well.

I think you would just need cpu, ram and a hdd

Yup i had that particular barebone system, you need to add a cpu, memory, hdd and optical drive, the gfx are intergrated.

You can add in a GFX card but be aware the PSU is only 250w, and it dosent have a pci-e connector.

Having said that i ran a 6800GT using an adapter and it was fine :)

I haven't used integrated graphics in a long time; is it beefy enough to handle 1440x900?

Should be fine for anything but games.

And your sig is to big.

I don't know what's wrong with it. 90% of the time it's only 4 lines, and sometimes it's 5.

I'll go fix now.

And thanks.

Also, 300W for:

Yay or nay?

(you can scrap the 3450 out of there now)

I think that might be pushing it a little, maybe not though.

And i would check to see if the mobo supports the 45nm intels.

And for the extra tenner or whatever i would get 4gb of ram for vista.

It's literally going to be doing office work 24/7.

No need whatsoever for 4GB.

and I'll check about the CPU.

Dammit. I wish there was just some sensible cases on OCUK, because I much prefer getting the motherboard etc myself - but the only way of getting one seems to be barebones.

If your looking to spend near £500 I would get the Antec Three Hundred case and buy a bettert psu. Hiper - M 580W..

Celeron E1200 ... costs about £35.

Basically a dual core, core 2 with only 512MB cache

Not great for games, fine for office

Simply change the board FSB to 1333Mhz and you have a 2.66Ghz CPU no sweat and £20+ cheaper

OCUK PC6400 is a couple of £ cheaper but you are pretty much at minimum budget unless you go for the previous bare bone system with E1200 and a smaller HDD.

Otherwise for a real budget office machine

Smaller HD ... for an office 80GB would be fine... Vista .. Premium includes aero and TV software.... not needed , save £20 and go basic. Onboard graphics unlikely to do vista aero anyway... cheaper mem, basic but ok CPU for office apps. Just a question of how much you want to spend
