New i7 8700k is for £303 right now
is it wort buying considering that im not upgrading but going with a new build. I am using cheap laptop right now.
Or should I wait for the release of 9th gen ? I really like the price on i7 8700k though
Please let me know what are your thoughts

Rig will be used for gaming primarly.

Personally I wouldn't be buying a chip that's over-heated by using toothpaste, no sir, not supporting that crud.

It's a good price, the shine was taken off that chip imo.

9 series will be 450 at least at launch due to price gouging. If you're not happy with that price then go for it.

Personally I'm waiting ... And waiting
....

Would it be wise to wait for the release of 9th gen and buy used i7 7700k for cheaper?
I really won't make use of more than 2 cores in windows anyway.

Any idea yet on when the 9 series will be released
As I'm looking at a new decent cpu to go with possibly a 2080ti in a month or so time and i was thinking of a 8700k, what's wrong with these chips?

Last I heard was beginning of October. Not sure of demand or supply on whether you'd need to preorder.

I think I will go with used ryzen 5 2400g for up to £100 and place it in a premium motherboard and then upgrade to zen 2 or zen2+. It seems like the best idea right now.

Sounds like a sensible plan. I'm planning something similar with Threadripper.

If you can genuinely get it for that price, do it!

Similar situation to the OP, I've ordered one expecting delivery 15th Oct and they've disappeared from that retailer now, so looks like supply is going to be an ongoing issue.
I would have gone Ryzen like most others but I'd already had the motherboard delivered so decided to wait it out.

Good luck on that one this side of Christmas it looks like stock at that pricing is exhausted plus a few Box shifters were a bit slow with keeping up with the news on Intel supply problem (Price-fixing) So they ended up selling before they realised they could jack up the price on old stock.

That was Amazon's price a number of weeks back. I see they are about 50% more than that now...wow!

I purchased one about a month ago when it would appear that stocks were more plentiful. Personally, after seeing the i7-9700K early benchmarks and finding it's marginally better than the i7-8700k, I'm sticking with 8th gen for now. Nice to see that, for a change, the Intel (Z370) boards support 9th gen at least!

Yeah I'm waiting to see specs/price of the 9900 and see if its worth upgrading.. no way on earth I'm upgrading at the moment the way the prices are.
