Good morning.

That'll be difficult unless you state a budget and what parts are needed or aren't needed (OS etc). Does it need to be mini-ITX or can it be micro-ATX?

400W will (more than) do it for the spec you listed, if the PSU can deliver its rated output or close to it on the 12v rail/s. You'd also need to check that the PSU has 2 x PCI-E power connectors for the GPU, as many 400W units only have one. Buying a solid 500-600W will give your friend more GPU upgrade options.

There are 280s and 285s for very close to the price of 270Xs.

For that motherboard the RAM would need to be 2x4GB as it only has two memory slots.

Thanks for a swift reply
Cant believe i've typed 4x2gb on ram.. :D suppose to be 2 sticks of 4gb
budget is roughly 300-400
better to get a branded psu? i dont think he will be upgrading at all
currently 270x directcuii is some price from the competitor

A basic gaming rig? Well if you shop around you can pick components from weekly sales, clearance, and B-Grade. If he really wants budget a Fractal Core 1000 micro atx case is £15, the H81 Micro ATX Overclockers have at £25 B-Grade seems ok, the G3258 is the cheapest budget gamer CPU. The best bang for buck most likely the AMD 280. Overclockers usually have the best memory deals. Many manage a G3258 gaming system for around £300, but I see no point dropping below an AMD 280 with current pricing unless your using a monitor from 2003 that is below 1080p.

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI Radeon R9 280 Gaming 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £149.99
1 x Crucial BX100 250GB SSD SATA 6Gbps 7mm Solid State Drive (CT250BX100SSD1) £72.98
1 x Intel Pentium K Anniversary G3258 Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £59.99
1 x Bitfenix Aegis Core Micro-ATX Chassis - Yellow £55.99
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £54.95
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan RED 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLRED38G2400HC11CDC01) £44.99
1 x **B Grade** Asus H81M-PLUS Intel H81 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX (MB-582-AS) £24.98
Total : £463.87 (includes shipping : ).

in the end decided to go with:
g3258, hopefully will oc to 4.0-4.5
7950 sapphire oc
z87i ac
aerocool xpredator cube
geil 8gb 1866hz
sandisk 256gb enterprise x110
aerocool 650w ap-pro psu
spent much less than intended as well
Thanks for all the help :)

Why the mini itx??? The one you seem to have bought, i can only find bgrade for almost £ 100! Would it not have been wiser to go with a midi tower and ATX motherboard, that brings more lulul for less... And the option to add more memory, sli/cf if you wanted.

Also if you're intending to Oc, you'll definitely need an aftermarket cooler

mobo i got for just over 40 brand new, which is not a bad deal considering the features it has.
ive got a scythe shuriken lying around to replace stock cooler
psu is not the best choice i've made but wanted to try it out, can always swap if needed

PSU-wise, how does the following sound?
EVGA 500W 80 Plus Bronze Power Supply (100-B1-0500-KR)
Cooler Master B500 V2 80+ 500 Watt

depending on the bios, fingers crossed its the latest one :D
reading horror stories that you cant oc that cpu on the mobo, multiplier with lock itself
