Looking for a basic mince receipe as the topic suggests. Just something i can add things to later on. At the moment my cooking skills are somewhat 'basic' anyways but i have cooked mince before with tomato puree and a ready made sauce thingy.

So ideas? I don't mind spicyness so i might try using Lee and Perrins. I want to experiment with corn beef hash, so ideas for that as well would be great.

Quick question, with all the fat that is generated...is it best to pour it down the sink or burn it off? :o

Depends what you are wanting to make mate. For a spag bol I normally go for a jar and then add Lee and Perrins (add a bit, stir taste add a bit etc). For things like shepards pie ive cooked up the mince (drained the fat) and used tomato sauce and a stock cube.

Mushrooms, Peppers (Capsicum), Kidney beans, Chilli peppers, Garlic, Onion, Oregano, Paprika, Black pepper, Tomato Puree.

Cook mince.
Add chopped Garlic, Chilli and onion.
Add Puree and allow to brown.
Add two tins Chopped tomatoes, and the Kidney beans.
Sprinkle some Oregano and Paprika in, and a splash of Worcester Sauce, and Tabasco.
Simmer and Stir on low heat for 15-20mins.

Serve with Rice, or Jacket Spud and abit of leafage.

Spag Bol/Lasagne/Other Italian:

Do everything above except for the Chilli, Peppers, Kidney Beans, and Tabasco. Use Basil instead of Paprika.

Mince + chopped potatoes (small) + herbs/spices + peas + mushrooms + curry powder + curry packet/jar served with rice.

The potatoes soak in a lot of the curry sauce so when you bite into it, it gives a little spicy kick.

Mince curry :)

mince ice cream

fry mince, make custard base, pour both into ice cream machine, churn for 20 mins

Another vote for burgers...

Mince, breadcrumbs, sometimes an egg, basil, chili, S&P and any other spices you fancy chuking in. Love homemade burgers.

Small note, always make them a lot bigger than you want, they shrink when cooked.

The basic is to brown the mince , fry the mince in a little oil until it has lost all of its pink colour. Drain all the fat off this will make whatever your cooking a good bit healthier.
You will usually want a chopped onion fried until clear with the above.

At this point you can then make a load of other dishes.

Savoury mince , add boilng water (to cover all ingrediants)to the above with sliced carrots, mushrooms a couple of beef stock cubes and a good splash of lea and perrins, simmer for a good 30 mins.

Chilli , Tinned tomatoes , mushrooms , red and green peppers , 1-2 Garlic cloves , dried mixed herbs (a good teaspoonful will not hurt), 1-2 Chillis seeded or unseeded depending on how hot you like, a bit of water to make sure everythings covered and simmer for 30mins add a tin of kidney beans in the last 5 mins.

Bolognaise as a above but without the kidney beans and chilli.

3 stunningly easy and very tasty recipes for ya :)

a good chilli goes down a treat in my house hold dead easy to make

brown off onion and garlic add mince to brown, add tin chopped tomatoes, tin of red kdneys beans 1/2 t spoon crush dried chillies or chilli powder, good dash of worcester sauce, 1 t spoon of cocoa, salt and pepper, simmer for ~ 1/2 hour. server with rice

I make my own version of corn beef hash that is soo simple it is untrue but is still very very tasty. (also ideal for the likes of camping as its simple and 1 pot)

Note I tend to have this almost like a thick broth rather than the solid mass you sometimes see.

Chopped peeled potatoes, chopped onion boiled in lots of water , a litte more than required to cover the ingrediants. a little salt and pepper and a good splash of lea and perrins. And maybe a big splash of brown sauce.

Cubed tin of corn beef (better quality is always better, cheap corn beef can be pretty disgusting stuff) added 15 mins from the end of cooking time.

Simmered for as long as you can be bothered , an hour is fine but actually seems to improve if left for longer.

Serve with crusty bread :)

wheres the mince

When you say basic how basic do you mean?

Most mince recipes i do are basic, they might require a few more ingredients but they don't need much in the way of ability. I'd say pretty much anything like shepherds pie, cottage pie, spag bol should be easy enough because you don't have to worry so much about timing like you do when you are cooking stuff in 4-5 different pans.

Add a bit of onion, chopped up tomatoes and an egg yolk.

Crunch up in a ball and put in goerge foreman for ~10 mins.

Burgers :)

When I have cooked chilli, I have found that it tastes better to use Chilli Beans rather than Kidney beans. What they are is Kidney beans in a chilli sauce, so you don't need to drain them before adding. I still add tomatoes and chilli's etc but this just makes a nicer sauce.

1/2 a teaspoon of chilli? FAIL!
You need at least 1 heaped teaspoon as a bare minimum....stop being a pansy!:p

And yes, needs cumin.
