I basically am after a Storage device to i can plug into the back of my Time Capsule, currently only using a 1TB USB drive but i fear this might not last that long so i like something with more expanding capabilities.

Ideally something that can hold a few HD's, connect via CAT5, simple to use and quiet. It doesn't need the features of the Drobo (Hot Swap for example), I am just going to fill it with drives and leave it.

p.s. I do have a Drobo but i am going to leave that purely for my work and keep the media stuff separate.

Or I might just get a 3TB USB and plug that into the Time Capsule as they can be had for £140.

I would bite the bullet and get a synology nas enclosure or a HP Microserver depending on your needs.

I have an older Synology DS210j with 2x2tb hdd's in it and it is awesome. Streams everything to my htpc. ios apps for accessing the files on ipad/iphone and I keep backups on there etc

Worth the initial expense as it will last you a long time and offer a good range of features

The newer 1 or 2 bay models of Synonogy and QNAPS are simple to set up, if you have a Drobo you'll know how already, and of course you could also set up Time Machine for back ups and still have file access via afp.
