hello i recently finished buying a computer from overclockers and im thinking of overclocking the cpu etc but im a bit behind times on the subject
My spec is e6600, p5b deluxe, 2x 1gb OCZ PC6400 DDR2, 8800 GTX. Now i checked my settings in the bios just now, the cpu fsb is 266, the memory i cant seem to find but would imagine is running at 800 (or 400), and the timings for the memory seem pretty high - something like 5-6-5-15 i.e just the way the bios set them. Everything in the bios is at its defaults. Ive read a little and apparently getting atleast 3ghz should be no problem.
So i set my fsb to 333, pci-e to 100mhz, pci to 33.3 and memory to 666, restarted and system did power on but got no video so obviously theres a problem. For me to reset the cmos i have to remove the GTX to get to the jumpers every time so its really a pain to trial and error so basically my question is this - what else should i have set apart from those settings (i.e ive seen people say disable other things like speedstep or something). And also whats the safest but most effective overclock based on my spec?
Im not an overclocking nut (obviously) and dont have amazing cooling, the only noticable component worth mentioning would be the tuniq 120. Im just looking to get a decent improvement without risking any crashing/cpu melting etc. I know some people here want to push it to 3.6 or 4ghz+ etc but safe and effective is all i need. Any opionins on what settings i should have?
