Help me ocuk DIY experts! Theres a leak in my bath, I think ive located the cause but im not sure, not sure what to do either.

This is underneath the bath, the leak seems to be coming from above that black part of the pipe, the dampness on the plywood also suggests that.

Removing the drain cover reveals this black stuff that looks to be a bit wrecked...

Seems like its some sort of sealant because its all over the underneath of the cover too:

Im 90% sure that black stuff being wrecked is causing the leak... question is, wat do?

I'd just buy a new trap and drain only a few quid. Clean it all up dry it off thoroughly and refit with some fresh silicone.

Are these things all standard sizes? What kind of silicone should I use? I read someone say to use something called "plumbers putty".

You have an acrylic bath with chipboard that is now soaked underneath, make sure everything is dry before you re seal. Try and leave the side panel off, take it apart and let it all dry out for a few days if you can.

The screw that goes vertically down into the captive nut doesn't need to be over tightened, you want to put it all together dry, make it all lines up square and straight then gloop sealant in between each surface and tighten up.

Then leave for at least a day.

Acrylic baths flex and move so you need to make sure it's dried before you use it.

Don't use plumber putty on an acrylic bath. It might be okay, it might not, there's a lot of information and miss information for and against.

I'd just use silicone.

That looks like roof and gutter seal. Horrible stuff.
Use Clear silicone not white and you will have no more leaks, just make sure everything is dry. Buy some Dow Corning stuff.
