Bathroom extractor fan

Black are not wired in.

This is the switch on the landing. This turns the bathroom light on and off with the fan with fan isolator in the run and then landing lights.

So the connector block in the back box with all the blues has a grey in it as well? - sorry i cant see to well in the photo

The loose black in the photo is from the same 3 core cable as the grey i assume?

Can you trace which terminal the brown core from the 3 core cable is in? is it the right or left switch that does the bath light and fan?

1 thing to check first - does the light go off if you turn the fan isolation switch off ???

If not then this will work---
Basically to correct it all you just need to find the brown that is currently the switch live take it out and put the black core in there sleeved brown, then put the brown in the L1 or L3 terminal of that switch to make it permanently live (you can see a link in the pic between l1 and l3 - either of these terminals will work and give you a permanent live)

If the fan iso switch does turn the light off then best to keep the colours as they are rather than sort them out and put that black core in the l1 or l3 terminal with the link

The fan ISO only turns the fan off. Lights stay on

I can take a better pic tomorrow if wanted. Cables are a little tight sadly too pull it out enough.

Sounds good then... just need to

1 - At the fan isolator
"Connect both blacks into the l2 terminals on the fan isolator, put the black into the same side as the grey and brown from the same cable, from 1st pic black pointing up goes in lower l2 and vice versa."

and

2- At the light switch
"Find the brown that is currently the switch live take it out and put the black core in that terminal sleeved brown, then put the brown in the L1 or L3 terminal of that switch to make it permanently live (you can see a link in the pic between l1 and l3 - either of these terminals will work and give you a permanent live)"

Then you should have the correct setup at the fan ready for a timer fan
brown as perm live
black as switch live - sleeve brown
grey as neutral - sleeve blue

Take pics or note where the wires are before you move them just incase you need to reverse it etc

Sorry only replying to been crazy busy. I've read over your steps

Step 1 no problem, I've been able to work out which cable it to which end and fitting into the switch I can do no problem.

Step 2 a little confused.

''Switch live brown, you mean the brown for the fan? Any idea looking which one this might be or is best I turn power off disconnect and try it.

Definitely turn power off :)

Basically what you have going to the fan is just a switch live and neutral and you need a permanent live for a timer fan

The brown is currently the switch live you have 2 options, either:

Just make the black perm live or to correct the wiring colours to brown perm live and black switch live (needs 1 more step).

On your pic of the back of the switch you see you have 6 terminals total, 2 rows of 3
Along the top row you have L1,L3,L2 with a link wire between L1 and L3 - this gives it away as a perm live

So you can either:

simple route - put the black into either L1 or L3 doesn't matter as they are linked anyway which ever is easier to fit the wire into - then black at the fan is your perm live

or to correct the colours so it makes more sense in future or for the next person who looks at it you need to do 1 more step

Trace the brown to find out which terminal out of the 6 that the brown wire from fan is going into - i cant see from the pic - it will be the brown wire from the same cable as the loose black and the grey which goes into the connector block with the blues

Once you have found which terminal the brown is going into then take it out and put the loose black wire into the terminal you have just taken the brown from

Then put the brown you have just taken out into either L1 or L3

This will correct the colours at the fan

Before doing that

what do the 2 switches do? is one for you landing/stair light or hallway? and does the other do the both fan and light? or separate switch for light and fan

looking at the pic again just worried that if the left switch looking from the back does both the fan and light it might not be easy to correct the colours and best just to put he black in L1 or L3

Worst case trying to correct the colours if the switch does both the fan and light must be other connections somewhere and correcting colour would make the light stuck on, so easier to just make the black perm live in that case

let me know which terminal the brown goes into or just go the black perm live route, could always try fixing the colours but might have to reverse it if light is stuck on
