Batman AK Wins Best British game @ Gaming BAFTAs

I know the muffed PC port badly impacted Batman, I was lucky and it only really seemed to be a problem in the car sections which sucked anyway, but these awards weren't just for PC games. It doesn't seem very fair to assess the quality of a game on the one platform where it didn't work very well.

It also doesn't seem fair to completely disregard the fact it was pulled from sale due to how buggy it was (when has that ever happened before?!). That would be like a car winning a "car of the year award" for being generally good except for the fact 30% of the time it would go up in a fireball when you start the engine...

As for best game of the year in 2016, the nominations were:
Fallout 4
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture
Life is Strange
Rocket League
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Which of those would you have picked over Fallout 4 and why?

Witcher 3. It has it's flaws, but in terms of ambition and scale, nothing comes close - I really, really, really hope Cyberpunk 2077 is on the same level (but with them learning from their mistakes).

I think the issue with Fallout 4 is that they don't appear to have put a lot of effort into pushing the series forward. It's just more of the same with a bit more shiny.

Maybe my impression is wrong but that's what it looks like, and why I've not bothered playing it.

This is how I see it as well. I'm enjoying it, but it's not 8 years ahead of Fallout 3; more like an expansion pack with a graphics overhaul.

I'm hoping that some of the reasons Witcher 3 didnt win antyhing was due to them gimping down the graphics, I dont think it was but I really love Karma.

No, That's a terrible reason for not winning an award.

The only reason Witcher 3 didn't win anything is because the British Academy have not got a clue about games.

BTW "Karma" ... you're on the wrong website

I would have picked Wither 3 over Fallout 4, and if you need to ask why then there's probably no point in elaborating any further.

It was a big deal at the time, they sold us one great looking game then gimped the hell out of it and make it console worthy. For me, thats a huge reason.

If the Witcher won the award, would you still be saying the BA have not got a clue about games ?

Developers never downgrade a PC version to 'make it run' on consoles. They can easily downgrade it for consoles while giving us the advertised products. The only reasons they downgrade games is either A) PC's can't run it, when the developer only gets acceptable performance on top tier hardware and poor performance on mid-low range machines, or B) at Sony/Microsoft's behest. The latter is rare but Ubisoft are suspected of doing so with Watchdogs and Division. I doubt Arkham Knight was done because of this though, most likely reason A) hence the abysmal performance it had on release.

I quite enjoyed AK - I didn't have anywhere near the problems everyone did, and while I wouldn't say the story was exceptional, it was a satisfying end. I personally felt the more satisfying play order would end with AC being the conclusion though, personally.

If you have time, this is over 160 pages but you will see CDPR clearly gimped the PC game

You can even youtube their early trailers that they say 'in game footage' which is nothing like the released game, and so on...

Have you been in any form of games or software development ? Things change all the time, features added and dropped for numerous reasons sometime because there buggy, sometimes to hit performance targets, sometimes just to finish a game in a timely manner etc.

Heck even Naughty dog said they had to drop a massive set peace from Uncharted 4 as it was to buggy to fix in time, if it was section that has already been shown then that's bad luck.

The Witcher 3 is still a amazing looking game and should have won GOTY. If you don't like the "downgrade" as you said vote with your wallet, don't buy the game or any CDred title.

I preferred Fallout to Witcher. I found other than the a decent story Witcher 3 game play let it down, was average at best and not especially fun.

I understand things change, but dont show us in game footage completely different to the release then categorically deny you downgraded it. That's not only making us out to be fools, and you can also clear as day see the differences. Other issues I have is that when the 2013 footage was shown pre-orders opened up after it, thats what people thought they were pre-ordering. That on CDPR's part was very sneaky.

I pre-ordered and took the risk, but yeah I wont ever be pre-ordering a game again (ok I did with wow legion but feel thats different) and will wait for a final game release.
