Battle.net hacked

blizzard are a joke these days , for a company that earn hundreds of millions a year they can't even afford to have a decent security system

indeed if a Human can make something, another Human can break it.

Nothing is ever truly secure.

So tell me, what are the problems with their system, how could they have made it more decent?

Blizzards security IS better than a lot out there and pretty good in general where it matters most, with the user. As other people have said nothing, not even superpower military security is unhackable.

Even if Blizzard spent billions on security this could still happen.

Sure, it can happen, and it does. At the same time that's a very dangerous attitude, because: Why bother with massive layers of security, when everything is ultimately hackable?

One amusing thing is that depending on individuals' attitude towards a company, the same thing is evaluated completely differently: A hacked company that is liked is the poor victim of an unwarranted attack, a company or business branch that is universally disliked is criminally negligent.

Quite funny really.

They have made themselves such a massive target for this sort of thing, what with the real money auction house & the always online model I'm surprised it did not come sooner.
They have really upset a lot of the core player base with some of choices they made.

I agree to some extent but if a company is universally disliked it is generally with good reason thus no shortage of people wanting to put the boot in.

If all they got for Europe data is emails, then you don't really need to worry, unless your password is stupidly weak anyway.

This is very unfortunate, if I were an American I'd be slightly concerned that the security question information had been taken.

The rate at which Blizzard accounts are hacked IS bad, when you take a look at something like Steam. Most peoples Steam accounts are worth more than any WoW or Diablo account will ever be, yet you don't hear about them being hacked every 5 minutes.

In answer to that preposition, i'd say "Why bother breathing? You're going to die anyways"

Hopefully such people will realise then how silly they are being. Or give up breathing cos there's no point!

:D

Can't do jack with a hacked Steam account other than sell the account. Hacked WoW can be used for all sorts of gold farming to sell the gold, more profit involved.

BTW, WoW has been running for nearly 8 years now and this is the first remotely major breach of Blizzard's security, i'd say thats pretty damn secure. Especially considering they didn't even obtain enough information to actually access accounts.

Well we say 'hacked but what do we mean by that?

Most of the accounts that are 'hacked' have been phished or keylogged or the like.

Blizzard Authenticator.

Nothing can be done with your account even if you GAVE them the password.
