*** Battlefield 1 ***

Actually enjoyed the few games we got into last night, switching to non default weapons made a big difference for me. It's a shame I'm still at base rank for each class as we didn't dare leave the server once we were in.

Troll of the night:
"How are you guys playing? I can't get in it keeps saying failed to join server"

"Go to the origin store and pre-order the ultimate edition, then it will let you play".

:D

Last night told me everything I needed to know... When I played BF1 I felt obligated to have "one more go" after I died, and the cycle continued. Never really overly enjoying it, just clasping on to the few moments where it was slightly fun. But once I turned the game off, I had no urge what so ever to play it again. Similar really to when I tried to SWBF beta, tho that felt far more empty than BF1. I can see more of Battlefield in BF1 than SW ofc.

However, last night I booted up the BF 2 revive (all free to play with full stats and growing community)....WOW what a game, I literally was devastated I had to go to bed, so much so I contemplated booking the next day off. 5 hours with a half hout break to shower was spent on it. I absolutely loved every single second. Part because of nostalgia, but mostly the game play just flowed and worked, satisfying, exciting, fast pace and basic.... Things like revives were far simpler, the objectives and non perk weapons, tanks, planes and jets were all equal..... DICE and games in general have lost their way particularly with basic fun game play. I am so impressed with BF2, not to mention the fact 2142 is coming out next month. It has blown me away so much, I no longer have any intention of playing Arma (my main current game) because of this BF2 revive!

As for BF1, I'm glad some people like the game and wish it all the best. DICE confirmed no more maps.... So I'm out. As a chap has said above, I've bought every single title, hell we've even place 2nd and 3rd in previous iseries BF3 competition but I am absolutely not prepared to waste my money on linear garbage that was only created for the console!

Last post.

Yeah the non default weapons make an enormous difference. Similar really to me in BF4 that, I was utter dross with the starting gear, was only once I had got some unlocks, got the better weapons and attachments and the better utility items that I was able to start being effective

Now I freely admit that I've played for around 2 hours tops as I also couldn't get in tonight either.

I had a little whinge on Reddit earlier as well, copied verbatim below:

The on-going simplification and consolification of the Battlefield series continues;

And this makes me sad. A long time BF player, (BF2 was my first game, I even had to upgrade to play it by buying a DVD Drive for the first time) each subsequent game from Battlefield 2 has become simpler and 'easier' to play. Bad Company 2 was great fun because the changes weren't that major and it still 'felt' like a BF game.

Battlefield 2142 was, IMO anyway, the zenith of Battlefield games and Titan mode just set it off. Multiple ways to win a game with teamwork being vitally important. I still wish for a proper 2142 sequel and really, really hope it's what they do next after BF1.

Battlefield 3 was fantastic but with Balance issues that still exist and it was still a battlefield game, just with some things that made it simpler, Loadout changes made team work optional and a whole class being removed meant that squad work was never an option for many people.

Battlefield 4 was an improvement in many ways over BF3 but still had that 'feel' of a BF game but again things were made simpler and many more 'prompts' appearing on screen to make things easier for many but also making the game have a lower skill ceiling. Things like the AC-130 making skill a secondary effort compared to spawning in the right vehicle annoyed me.

We don't talk about Hardline. IMO it's not a Battlefield game.

Then came the BF game that's not a BF game, Star Wars Battlefront. A far simpler game in the Battlefield mould it introduced stupid things like Heroes that can be picked up giving extra abilities which is crazy IMO and majorly spoiled the game for me.

This has clearly been a major point of influence (along with the game that can't be named) for the Battlefield One development team which, honestly, feels like it could have been subtitled Battlefront alternate reality. This makes me sad.

I certainly won't be pre-ordering and, much like after I tried SWBF, I won't be buying. And this will be the first time I haven't bought a Battlefield game since BF2. :(

Most disappointed. :(

Are you seriously trying to say you did not play BF2???

If so you missed the best of the bunch.

As for 2142 I never classed it as a BF game. Only game in the series I did not like.

If you like ray guns go and play COD.

Trick with tanks is to have a few Assault running about with the antitank rocket guns, the tanks dont last long then :)

A few assault? Are they in the game? I never see them!

Playing yesterday afternoon, me and a mate went 4 rounds in a tank without a single death, in fact we only came close to dying once when someone realised mounted cannons exist, the rest of the time it was snipers trying to shoot us (with normal rounds) it's not very enjoyable.

This is a super dumbed down version of battlefield yet the majority of people still don't play to the objective, it's a mad dash to get up the mountain and snipe!

The map doesn't help it's a snipers paradise. Played a few rounds with friends and it was a lot more enjoyable.

Still reserved like hazard mentioned once you unlock the better guns it's a big improvement, the standard medic gun has pathetic accuracy (37 I think) whereas the one I have now is considerably better (74).

Try playing in a round with me, my antitank rocket gun will soon make short work of your tank :D

You're right about the cannons, I see very few people bothering to use them and yet they are pretty useful against the vehicles. Not the fault of the game that though (nor indeed the lack of people using the Assault antitank gun), rather the fault of the players. But in time, as people learn, that will change.

Yup people give of about tanks being OP but once people start using the AT rocket, they won't last very long especially when you get some good pilots with unlocks on their planes and if a tank gets in close, they are down within seconds with those anti-tank grenades.

When i last rocked assault class, i picked all anti-tank stuff. Mines, Grenades and light AT grenades. They make life much easier.

Yup, the unlocks are the key. Just look at the number of people who are now unlocking the better Medics rifles and at how thats changed their perception of the game. I think its one of the difficulties of going from a previous game where you have stuff all unlocked and a new game where you have nothing yet unlocked.

I just uninstalled it, not a huge battlefield fan but thought I would give it a go it's just not for me, looks nice though and from other videos the other maps look really nice.

Symthic have the BF1 weapon charts up now...

http://symthic.com/games/bf1/beta-weapon-charts.php

Edit: first thing I noticed is how little spread increase you get with the trench versions when shooting from the hip which ties into Josh and my observations yesterday (As trench versions are the starting versions). Lowest recoil is from the Light infantry versions and highest spread decrease is from the factory versions.

I also find it odd that the sniper rifles do not do their maximum damage up close, but from 80m onwards until they tail off again. Why would a weapon not do max damage at point blank range? Are they rocket propelled bullets??
