battlefield 2 multiplayer ?

hey guys,

i'm looking to get into playing battlefield 2, mainly online.

When i went to online i only found 3 servers, which is obviously very odd.

What do i need to play online and what is the latest patch please ?

Latest patch is 1.5.

I only know this as I updated this morning for the wee fella and he is playing it right now.

there is a free version called battlefieldfree2play,check that out , i think its better than the original bf2

When I had the retail version (now using steam) I think I just opened the patch and followed the set up wizard. Where did you get the patch from?

the steam version should auto patch i believe, check the game menu and you will see the current version.

i don't have the steam version,

its a version i brought from play.com

battlefield collection

battlefield 2
battlefield 2 special forces
battlefield 2 booster packs compelation

i installed on my laptop then transfered the whole folder over to my pc becuase my DVD drive is borked on here

If i buy it from steam the complete collection, it doesn't include Bad company right ?

patching can be buggy! need to patch to 1.40 then 1.51 i think, run the patch as administrator and it does take a while to actually start, be patient though!

If you're buying a BF2 collection it won't have BC2... they do list very clearly what games come in each bundle as well...

Personally I just bought it off Steam for ease of patching because i only had very old discs and really couldn't be arsed to bring them up to date (have done this with a few old games I've gone back to) if you dont want to do that, there is probably a patching guide in here somewhere:

Also if you install from disk and patch don't add the shortcut to steam, you will get kicked by punkbuster. There is probably a fix for this but I'm too damn lazy to look

play4free is awful! like 3 maps, cant choose the server or change loadout in game.. for the sake of £5 or less, bf2 is a much better deal!

i brought it from steam now.

just need to start playing, and getting used to it.

any hints and tips ?
