Battlefield 2 Crashing

I've just got Battlefield 2 and it keeps crashing back to the desktop whenever I try and start it. I think it's because I've got a Geforce4 Ti4200 GFX Card. Does anyone know if this card will run this game? If not what is the minimum spec card you would recommend I buy (preferably one I can by 2nd hand off this forum!!!!!!).

I think BF2 is DX 9 only , and that card is not DX9. Try getting a 6800GS/GT i have the 6800GS (PCI-E) and i run it all maxed out and it runs smooth (2gb of Ram) for me

there's more chance of a cyborg invasion than you running that engine on your system. you'll probably need liquid nitrogen for a start.

lol

6800 runs at about £130 on the members market. Is that the minimum spec card that will run Battlefield 2?

what are you looking at spending? the card specs are listed on the back of the game box, under all the logo stuff, the very small print.

I've got 1gb of ram. I'm not a gamer, my son bought the game today not realising the GFX card requirements so he expects me to stump up for a new card but I haven't exactly got loads of spare cash so am looking for a cheap option!!!

If you can't even start the game without it going back to desktop that is usually because of a program forcing your refresh rate. If you have something locking your refresh rate, disable it, then set it in game along with the resolution...

lol
bring on the cyborgs then.

It will work on that card but it was never designed to by EA so the easy answer is no it wont work, its only dx8.1 and you need a dx9 card really.

I played BF2 on my ti4200 for a few months though, just the demo till I upgraded to a 9800pro. It will work fine but the graphics will be fairly bad, it can do about 50fps and I could top the scoreboard.

Do a google for TatniumD3D.exe if you want to follow that up. It would far easier to just buy a compatible card however, a Radeon 8500 will run the game apparently (badly)

GeForce FX 5200 will do the job also, badly. 9600pro or higher is about the minmum for low settings I think

Dude, just dig your head into the sand and stay there :p Mate, it will let you get to the menu screen, but itll be like playing a slideshow, even on low settings. Id probably say see if you can dig up a second hand 9800pro, they proobably dont go for much more than £60 now.

In short, i doubt itll play BF2, smoothly anyway.

Do you mean a 9800 Pro wouldn't play it smoothly?

ps off to bed now - early start tomorrow!
