After reading about many horror stories about this site on here i was wondering if i am being overly cautious or if i am indeed being taken for a hustle.

I sold my phone on ebay the other day (this is the first time i've ever sold anything online) and didnt get around to accepting the paypal payment today. Anyways i checked my emails last night and the person who won the auction emailed me saying he might be around my area with his girlfriend and if he could pick it up.

Normally i'd be fine with this if he was paying cash but i've already accepted the paypal payment (although it will take 3 days to go into my bank) am i right in assuming that if he just collects it from my house he can just file a claim on ebay that he never recieved the item?

I planned on sending it via signing for delivery. Would i be right in sticking with this?

also could anyone recommend what would be the cheapest way to pad and protect the item if i do end u sending it to his address. I don't want a repeat performance of that i am shop guy :D

Thanks guys.

POST IT recorded delivery
else he will say Item not received (paypoo require electronic proof)
He gets refund, you lose

Unless he pays cash and you refund the paypal

Write out a receipt and get him to sign it? Obviously a copy for him and one for yourself. I would also ask for proof of signature, drivers lisence/cash card.

Paypal need electronic proof, read there T&Cs

Yes you could demand a copy of his driving licence and 2 copies of his address (last 3 months) and take a photo of him and see how he reacts to that.

Either refund and ask for cash... I'm assuming if collecting he is going to want the P&P refunded anyways?

Or else just make excuses as to why you will be available around the time he wants to come by and post it. If you didn't specify pickup as an option, you aren't under any obligation to make arrangements for him to pickup unless you really want to.
