Hello all,

I don't really post in here, but wanted to keep a progress diary nonetheless. :)

Will update with some progress pics etc later. I recognise that I am by no means overweight and I am not looking to become hench ;) but the motivation that I have is so that I can fit in my wedding dress and I have 357 days to do this!

Losing weight isn't the focus but sustaining a lean and in proportion figure is. I bought my dress in August last year and have stopped trying it on because I know it probably wouldn't not fit as well as I would like... if at all! :/

Anyway, the first hurdle I have come across is that I have started a new job and therefore I need a new gym.

The options are: GymBox (crazy, in your face and pretty mental) or Virgin Active (pretty vanilla, nothing different but has a pool and I can visit any club).

I need to make a decision by tomorrow as I want to get back into the routine of going to the gym.

Dietwise, I am pretty much governed by FF so apart from some little tweaks i.e. cut down on sweet treats and eating out :( all is good there.

GymBox £82/month for 6 months - no pool, more interesting classes
Virgin Active £115/month for 12 months - pool and slightly more convenient

Argh. Will have to weigh up the pros and cons when I get home tonight.

Unfortunately FF has told us that he'll be happy with nothing less than Arnie sized guns... :D

I'll be interested in what you end up choosing to do in terms of any training frequency and classes.

Those gym prices blow my mind!

Good luck :)

How much?

Take a visit to each and see which one you think has what you want and you feel comfortable at, will you be using any classes that they offer?
And of course - best of luck and congratulations :)

Not quite...

http://www.virginactive.co.uk/en/memberships/multi-club-access

for example if you join West London Club you can only access clubs in Group 2 or below but not group 1 or classic clubs (e.g Royal Berkshire club)

Only no this as my OH works for the Royal Berks club

Good luck with the progress

FWIW - I think the Gymbox will offer you more in terms of development and push you to attend classes and do things you don't like doing.

Unfortunately joining the same gym for us isn't really convenient as I work in Canary Wharf and BB works in the city - the David Lloyd at home is our closes "decent" gym, but it's a trek if you don't have a car.

Gymbox sounds more full on and interesting.

The key things I'd like to see your classes involve you in are things like squats, deadlifts, and those sort of movements. Building a little muscle won't do you any harm, and it will improve your metabolism and allow you to burn a few more calories too - which, with your sweet tooth isn't going to be of any harm ;)

As for prices, it's pretty standard for London unfortunately :(

Is gymbox the one that featured on that fat to fit program last year with the mental trainers?
Personally I'd just spend the time wanting to punch them all in the face.

Hmm if she works in the city that's near me. There's plenty of fitness first about and those are a lot more reasonably priced, and surely there's corporate discount available??

I'm quite glad I only pay £10.99 a month :o

Can't believe that's even allowed to be honest...It's crazy!

With FF aiding you, I'm sure you will do well BB! wish my partner would at least go running or something, let alone do squats and deadlifts

The Bank club is a Classic club... so ok I don't have access to one of them. One that I'd probably never go to!

That is true, but I will be honest with you - I won't go if its not convenient for me. If the club isn't on the way home then I won't go - simples! I've been a member of Nuffield at Cannon st for years but since I moved jobs in Feb I haven't been since, purely because its too much of an effort to go to. E.g. I hit the train home before getting to the gym.

It's extremely stupid I know and annoying, but there's no point me paying for a club that I won't go to.

I think I will give GymBox 6 months and see how it goes.

I have a couple of free passes for Nuffield and Virgin Active should I want to swim! :p
