The 360 edition is essentially a souped-up version of the PC version of the game.

I wish my PC was as "mega" as the Xbox 360. Its only a lowly 6800GT, 2 gig ram, A64 3500. I want to run that "souped up" version of COD2.

Well, having just finished it on the X360 it does look excellent with no frame rate issues either. I realise this is the PC Gaming forum so I had best be careful, but to quote IGN's review of the X360 version:

"The Xbox 360 version is comparable to a high-end PC system running the game, and in some little cases -- like a lit landscape or a full-blown fighting sequence -- the Xbox 360 version looks superior."

(Taken from http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/667/667388p1.html)

I think it is safe to say that a top-end PC will beat the 360 version, if nothing else, on res and AA at least.

To be fair your spec isn't a match for an Xbox360 :p

I guess the BBC are excluding the enthusiast PC market with such comments, and referring to mainstream PCs..

Funny, I used to support the whole next gen console thing, but now I've upgraded to 7800GT and and AMD X2 I'm not so convinced. I think COD2 looks better on my PC compared to what I saw running on a 360 in a certain electrical retailer.

With the upcoming R580 and G71/G80 cores I don't think PC users have much to worry about - so long as you've got a nice bank balance of course :)

there's no anti aliasing on the 360 version, right?

IIRC Xbox 360 has set hardware defaults for AA and used it as a neat selling point. Can't remember whether it's 2x or 4x, but it's definitley there even if you can still see jaggies (Not sure how a developer would go about dodging this).

Indeed, visually the xbox360 simply can't compete because it runs at "low" resolution.

Don't get me wrong, the xbox360 gives excellent visuals/performance for the money, but if you are like Jokester with 7800gtx-512 SLI and an overclocked FX-57 or whatever he has these days, you can get it looking nicer on PC.

the xbox 360 runs way better(at 1280x720) than my pc(1280x1024), but the textures are lower rez, and i think the normal mapping is even lower. So saying the XBox version is souped up is wrong IMO. But still great value for money.

Tbh, Cod2 runs fine full settings on my pc (maybe not as good as the 360, but still good!!), does anyone have similar specs as me running it on full settings? :) I think they are over exaggerating.

i agree with the idea that COD2 looks good on the 360.. but my PC wipes the floor with this particular game :o if people want to see really good 360 graphics then this is definatly not the game to look at.

Am I bovered?
Your opening post suggests you seem a wee bit annoyed with the BBC's comments when comparing the PC and 360.

So yes. I think you are bovered :p :D

I agree with most people here in that COD2 probably isn't the finest example of what the 360 can do. The next 6 months leading upto the PS3 launch will be interesting. Most people are betting on Halo 3 but I imagine there'll be many others.

Is this thread going to lead anywhere other than yet another 360 vs PC argument? The OP hasn't even provided any kind of argument to actually stimulate debate, and yet it's still getting responses.

Some people think COD2 is better on the PC, some people think it's better on the 360. Some people will have good enough PCs to run it better looking than the 360, some people won't. Neither party is right or wrong, case closed.

I played it briefly in the shops and the only thing that stod out to me was the shinyness of it. I have to say though even on my 7800GT%X the game can still feel a bit slow in parts of the game and I don't even have the game maxed out.
