Say what you like about the BBC and the licence fee, it's programming like this that make me proud to live in a country with such a broadcaster.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/6650545.stm

John Sweeney was harrassed night and day for weeks by these scum, I think his much talked about outburst was totally reasonable given the circumstances. In a similar situation I'd probably hit the arrogant yank. This is a dangerous cult that have ruined lives and killed in the past, and it's based on a story even more absurd than any religion.

I hope that Panorama bring the ridiculous claims of scientology into the mainstream so the general public can realise just how idiotic and harful it is.

Scientology And Me, Panorama, Monday 14th, 8.30pm, BBC1.

Was reading that article earlier today. I'll definitely be watching the programme.

I must say, I didn't know an awful lot about Scientology (and still don't).
Before reading that article, all I knew was that some Hollywood celebs were part of the religion.

I actually assumed it was some kind of ironic gesture aimed at followers of the other major religions which are about, given how much negativity they can sometimes produce. I had no idea it is anything like what the BBC article describes and that people took it seriously.

Read the story behind it, it reads like a sci-fi book. Oddly enough because the Scientology founder (L Ron Hubbard), was a sci-fi writer.

What does annoy me, is the people who are naive about the subject and think Scientology is about science, and involved in the whole science vs Christians thing.

I know all religions stem from a ficticious book, but some people disagree that is fine.

What I am absolutely perplexed at is that this guy OPENLY made up a book and people are accepting it as fact???

Why can't everyone see this is exactly the same as Christianty/Islam etc...?

I know hardly anything about Scientology, other than how it seems absolutely ridiculous. Saying that, most of what I've learned about it has been through South Park, which I can only assume hasn't put the argument across for both sides :D.

So I'll probably be watching.

Nothing South Park hasn't already done. :p

I wonder if Tom Cruise is still in the closest ;)

Correct, its as barmey as any religion, what's worrying though, there so brain washed they will start to harm people (as do most religions) mentally and physically, this is what gets my goat, believe whatever rubbish you want, but as soon as you start effecting someone else, then the line is crossed, the world really needs to start to think how religion is effecting the human race, how its holding it back and pretty much ruining it

As informative as that YTMND is, you know full well the pictures in it aren’t suitable for a family forum, take the link down before the mods have to.

Absolutely dusgusting cult! Can't it got help setting up a "church" here in england. It should be banned.

I like the fact that it is a stupid persons tax, but at the same time the money goes to a pretty evil institution so negates the pros.

This video gives an idea of its followers.

Perhaps those two religions started off so vehermently. Perhaps they do, otherwise they'll dissappear into nothing. Once scientology gets a hold in a society it'll just continue...perhaps in 500 years scientology will be a major religion.
