BBC using MSQRD to hide people's faces now?

Just saw the powerful documentary about child abuse and the Jimmy Savile revelations on BBC One, and oddly, the thing that creeped me out the most was their use of face changing technology (like that found on mobile apps) to replace pixelation to protect people's anonymity....

It's just odd and left me concentrating more on 'uncanny valley' effect than the far more important narrative. I hope this isn't the start of a trend.

Anyone else watch it and had to double-take?

Yeah, it's very bizarre. What's the point of identity protection when there could be someone who looks just like the CGI version, and I've seen that CGI bloke somewhere too! It's absolutely bizarre, but mass media have their reasons to do whatever they're doing and nothing's going to stop them.

Its like they are talking away from the abuse case because you cant help but stare at the unreal face.

Exactly. And why on earth have they put a massive grin on his face including the overly raised eyebrows? What is that about  I haven't seen the show but still its some weird stuff.

Jesus wish I hadn't looked at this thread before bed  that is seriously creepy.

Surely the BBC would guess the subject matter of such a show is not the time to be playing around with CGI faces?!

I watched the harrowing documentary and I must admit the Mrs and I were more creeped out by the disguise. I personally thought the various disguises took away the message from the documentary.

Kinda related, but on Youtube, why do some faces occasionally get blurred out? I'm talking wins/fails type videos like Break.com and FailArmy. Most faces still show up ok, just the occasional one gets blurred/pixellated out.
