So then guys, I'm in a dilemma and it has took me an age to figure out my login details hehe

I decided upon the Asus Maximus VI Hero. I picked this board due to the better sound, components used etc etc

But for the price, should I be a Hero?

What I am trying to get at, is there a better board out there, similar features, good audio and similar price?

Gonna be paired with a 4770K.

Another option would be a sound card, any info on this is much obliged.

Many thanks to you all! :D

btw my last build did not get completed to to many unforeseen circumstances, but this build is going ahead and the money in the bank for MoBo :D

PS I can go to £200 if you can justify the increase :)

Edit: Mistakenly read that the Hero had an ALC898 codec instead of the new ALC1150 it actually has.

From the look of it - the Hero is a really nice board. But unless you need all the features offered by the hero - I would still be tempted to go for a ~£100-120 Z87 board and a £25 sound card like the Xonar DGX.

Great! I really like the board, some features may be left untouched but I like the idea of having them :)

I like great sound so that is high on the list. Aesthetics too seeing as the system will be going in a windowed case.

Thanks for for replying mate! Very much appreciated :)

Haha nice one guys! My missus would bury me alive if I went for one of those awesome bits of kit ;)

So after further inspection and looking into those specific codecs, I see it is just some Realtek audio with some tweaked drivers... No thanks!!

Onwards and upwards, suppose I will look into alternatives :o

I had the OC before this - it quickly became faulty and I got a refund. The overclock with this board is identical, and as a huge bonus I have a slot between the socket and the PCI-E slot, which is really helpful for a large cooler like mine, otherwise the graphics card is about 1mm from the cooler.

For M-ATX boards the Asus ROG Gene is probably your best bet. I've never tried a Gigabyte Sniper board, but they don't seem that popular. After trying micro ATX I decided to go back to full ATX.

the gene series of boards is great. its technically a step up from the hero. but has less pcie slots. not an issue unless you wanted more than 2 way sli.

also dont worry about the size. its not the size of the wave but the motion of the ocean that counts here ;) it wont be slower than full atx boards.

Yeah, the days of the board making a big difference in performance ended a long time ago. Having looked at the Gigabyte UD3H, 4H and 5H it seems the main difference is the colour :p

So many options open up every time I'm here :P

Now I am leaning towards Asus again haha

I recieved a hero on monday but my cpu hasnt arrived yet so I cant play with it :(

I think the onboard audio is nothing special, its still an ALC1150. I thought all it was was the connecters were extra shielded or something, im not sure.

Good sound? I do belive them be fibbs :P Gigabyte g1 sniper ftw! I know the atx version aint cheap but go mATX and get the m5. Its the same board just smaller and half the price lol. Honestly love mine to bits and the sound really is the nuts on that bad boy!
