Arrived home from work at 8:40 PM. Switched on my computer and the lights all went out. Unplugged everything and switched on the circuit breaker. Plugged the PC back to the 8 socket Belkin Surgemaster and it does'nt power anymore. The printer and the monitor plugged to the same surgemaster is working fine. Tried plugging to other socket in the house,,,,,,nothing. Used my son's PC (with Antec Basic Plus 550) on the same socket and it's working fine.

Does it mean that my PSU is borked? It's the Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 1000.

rest of the rig is;

Asus Rampage II Exttreme
I7 920 DO clocked at 4.2Ghz with 1.275 Vcore
OCZ Gold (3x2) PC3-12800C8 1600Mhz Triple channel with 1.64 VDimm
Zotac GTX 480 stock clock
2 x OCZ Vertex 2 60 (Raid O)
WDC Black 640GB
LG DVD R/RW
Lian Li B25FBW Case.

Is it RMA time for the PSU?

What makes me wonder though was that, there's no sound, burning smell or spark before the lights went out and it was working fine yesterday until 3 AM this morning.

could be anything internal gone, they dont all have to shoot six foot flames out.

The fact it didnt catch fire/smoke/do a electric light show, and your pc components still work ok should actually give you confidence to replace it with another.

Ah, must have read it wrong, thought you used your sons psu in your pc?

I fully blame the Cider.

Can anyone recommend a PSU with UK RMA? With Be Quiet, i've ben asked to ship the item to Germany and the person I spoke to could'nt ascertain how long it's gonna take. It's quite upsetting as it's not even 2 years old yet.

After 2 weeks, sent an email early in the morning of 7-02-2011 to [email protected] to find out why I still haven't received any RMA number and until now, I did'nt get any response whatsoever.

I have complied and done all the necessary steps stated in 3.3 of the warranty procedure as stipulated here http://www.be-quiet.net/be-quiet.net/index.php?StoryID=9

I am a patient man but it looks like it's going to be tested, don't you think?

Not exactly a warm welcome from BeQuiet then. I recently bought one of thier psu's. If it fails, I don't relish having to pay for it to be shipped abroad. Then, I suppose I should have considered that when I bought it.

But... as far as I was aware, the warranty is the retailers liability in at least as much as the retailer would be liable to pay for (or arrange) postage to manufacturer. I could well be wrong there though.

The PSU was bought 15-05-2009. When I inquired from OcUK re RMA, this is the answer I got.

due to the age of the product, the RMA would have to be dealt with by be quiet.
sorry I cant be more help

their rma contact is here.

Hello reygjabla,

I'm in a pretty good position to help you here, as I recently sent my BeQuiet Dark Power Pro 750W PSU (bought in June-ish 2009) back to Germany due to a fault it had developed. The good news is that I received a newer replacement model a couple of days ago.

Like you, when I needed to return the PSU I was past the warranty period offered by the retailer I bought it from (not OcUK in my case), so they simply told me to contact BeQuiet directly. So I sent a message via their website, and received the same reply as you (it must be a default message they copy and paste into each reply!). You do not actually get an RMA number from them, you simply send it off to the address they give with a copy of your invoice, a description of the problem and your return address. Then you just have to wait unfortunately. I sent a few messages asking if they would refund me for the cost of postage/arrange it themselves, but got no reply. Eventually I gave up and sent it to them. It cost me £15 to send via UPS using the website parcelsplease.co.uk (I don't think that is a competitor!). It was delivered to them on the 20th January, and all I could do after that was wait. I didn't hear anything from them during the entire process, and on Monday of this week the replacement PSU arrived. So it took about 12 working days from the PSU being delivered to them, to me receiving my replacement.

Hopefully all that should help, and whilst I did get a replacement PSU eventually, it wasn't easy, and it cost me £15 which I'm still not happy about (but as you have found out their customer support is almost non-existant).

Simon

RMA Update: Sorted.

Update! Update!

10-02-2011 After sending a trust message to AceModder(OcUK), I got a message from Be Quiet rep to ignore the RMA number and just send the item to Germany.
12-02-2011(Saturday) - Sent the item to Be Quiet Germany HQ.
21-02-2011(Monday) - Recieved a brand new and upgraded version of the PSU. From Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 1000W P7 to Be Quiet Dark Power Pro P8.:p:p

The whole process took exactly 6 working days had I not been confused by the wordings in the warranty requirement page.
