Be There.... Any Good

Also been with them since Lunch....never have any problems, cheap as chips (£20 p/m for life :) ) & fast fast fast. The IE7 password thingy is a known issue & BE are waiting on speedtouch (who make the BE Box) to release a fix for it. There is a work around provided on the official forums

£20 Per Month....!!!!!

How did you get that cost may I ask?

for those asking for speeds i'm 1.2k from the exchange and get up to 8meg.

That doesnt sound too great. I am similar distance and was thinking of going with Be in March (when they LLU my exchange).
At those sort of speeds I may well just stay on 8meg Max instead.

Well its because my line is limited to 8meg for some reason or another, i did a test on the BT website as to my highest theoretical speed and it was 8meg, i'm sure i would get a faster service if they sorted out the exchange.

Admitedly i was hoping for at least 12meg but until BT upgrade i don't really have a choice.

Just called 'Be' customer line and they said I can expect 8meg at my house?

1.33km from the exchange as the crow flys so that could be about right...........!

May stick with NTL to see if I get the 20meg upgrade within the next few months as I'm with them at the mo and the line is stable and I get 1.12mbps download speeds..

8Mbps is the most you'll get for a long time - on a BT service.
The checker, nor BT, has nothing to do with what you'd get on Be (or any other LLU provider).

Can you tell likely connection speed from the db stats of your router? I seem to remember something when Max was launched and you could tell by your db attenuation how likely it would be that you would get good speeds?
My be wrong though

(Just thought I'd test with pinging those websites compared to yours) I'm getting around 5-10ms faster average than all of you on 10mb cable.

Not trying to brag here just intrigued why I am getting better on a supposidly lower speed.

Your download speed doesn't have anything to do with your ping time.

The construction of the ISP's network and, especially, your location makes a huge difference.

You can take a guess with this.

Attenuation isn't terribly useful for estimating though

Thanks for that tolien, looks like 14ish meg is obtainable on my line according to that. The proof of the pudding is in the eating though I guess. I remember doing something similar before I went to 8meg and it estimated 5-6ish

Straight line?

yes straight line, 1.9KM actual lenght by DMT tool

i asked them to put me on fastpath few days ago, my speed jumped to 19.3mb  but i went back to old profile due too low SNR and had few cut off so i'm back on 15.5mb, much better :)
