Thinking of moving to be there from pipex , but need a few things answered.

The unlimited service they do , there is no traffic shaping on there is there?. Far as I can tell there is not , but just wanted to make sure , as it's one of the reasons I'm moving from pipex.

The equipment they supply , is there a minimum term untill it's yours. As from what I've read on both forums and sites , the unlimited package has no minimum contract , you just have to give three months notice to leave. But it does not say if there is a minimum time untill the modem is yours or if you have to give it back.

How easy is it to move to them from another isp?. I think I just get my mac code of pipex when I phone to cancel , then put it in on the be order?. But then how long till pipex switches off and be comes on?.

Finally , just looking for some general opinions on them :). Seem pretty good from what I've read , but would like some opinions from people on them.

Thanks :).

No, not from what I've heard anyway, enjoy your unlimited internet

Yes, get your MAC from Nubex, give it to Be*, wait about a week, maybe a bit more.

:) , no downtime then between the switch over ? :). After some more reading modem has to go back to be if you leave , but thats no problem. Have my own anyway. So if nothing comes up , I'll phone pipex monday and get rid :).

Also anywhere that can give me a rough guess of what I can get?. Only on 1mb at the moment , so anything better will do.
Stats be attenuation 37db down , 11db up.
SNR 23db down , 22db up.

Been digging around looking at with other people have with thier stats and one or two online calculators but can't really work anything out other than maybe 4mb ?. One said 8-12mb  , based on the 37db down.
All seems so confusing :(

Thanks .

You might be looking at around 30 mins downtime, or 5, depending how quickly how can set up your router. :)

If Be* is ADSL2+ (I think it is) expect between 8-12, if however its only ADSL MAX, expect between 4.6 and 5.4mb/s

Taken from the DSLZone line speed chackery things. :)

I am on BE & have a SNR at 38 so very close to you, i synch at 8mbs. They are an excellent ISP & I would throughly recommend them

Just signed up for Be myself last Thursday. Line is set to be switched over this Thursday.

As for the router. As far as I can tell, there isn't a time period until it's yours, if/when you leave you give it back or pay £100.

I'll just be keeping boxed as I've already got a Netgear router I'll be using.

Hmm , not to bothered about the fup , everyone seems to have some sort these days just to stop you trying to download the whole internet :). Just leaving pipex as they seem to throttle regardless of whether you are a heavy user or not.

Thanks for the help :). Think I'll get pipex cancelled tomorrow then and get my mac code.

I'm on the verge of taking the plunge with Be* as well. I'm with Zen at the moment on the old non-Max 2Mbit service (still at £34.99 per month  however work pay the bill so I don't mind).

Frankly, my only concerns are:

a) reliability
b) how easy it would be to get back to another ISP if it all goes pear-shaped (friend of mine just had real grief when his ISP went bust... ended up going with NTL in the end :( )

Anyone got any idea what up/down speeds I'd be likely to get with these stats?

NE Current Attenuation : 41.0 dB Cur SNR Margin : 24.0 dB
Far Current Attenuation : 25.5 dB Far SNR Margin : 25.0 dB

Thanks :)
