Bear with it's head stuck in a jar?

Don't remember Winnie the Pooh ever having this problem with his jar.

n00b bear
:D

Seems a no brainer to me to have shot the bear. No one knows the situation, why so damning? If a bear was walking down a street with people on it, the bear would have to go, pronto. It was probably already very hostile.

R.I.P Pooh bear

Ok, may be the dart didnt work, but what about a good old fashion net? people used to hunt using that didnt they?

Wonder how people here would have dealt with it...

jesus christ. First off its just a black bear, they're not exactly rare or endangered at all. Second a black bear that sized (not to mention hungry, dehydrated, and very stressed due to having a bucket on its head) is obviously very dangerous in a busy place where people live. A high powered rifle would have a much higher range and much more stopping power than a dart gun. In a heavily forested area it would be hard enough to get a shot with a rifle let alone a dart gun. The dart is much slower than a bullet and because of that its much more likely to be redirected or stopped completly by vegetation in the woods.

Surely a rock thrown at said jar would have sufficed... or a break glass type hammer.

Hmm. Stupid Americans =/

Mr Naplin said the bear was "in pretty tough condition" after being unable to eat or drink for several days because of the 2.5-gallon (9.5-litre) plastic jar on its head.

Hmm. Stupid English =/

Some people getting a bit emotional, sure they probably could have tried harder to save it, but if they did it would only end up as someone else hunting trophy! They've got loads of black bears, they are like rabbits. Still, a bet that bear felt pretty stupid with a jar on its head lolol

why not take it to a sanctuary?

I've just been out to India- the foresters there ride through tiger jungle with nothing but a pushbike. That is bravery

THey need to tranq a tiger, they get on an elephant and go into the jungle and track it until they can tranq it. Failing that, they track on foot/bike. With all the resources the US has compaerd to India, the US should be ashamed of the shooting.

An animal has to sleep in 6 days. If they REALLY wanted to tranq it, they could have. You track the thing until it stops. This is a hungry dehydrated animal, it isnt going to be zipping off like a fawn.

What they mean when they say they couldnt is that it wasnt efficient to keep it alive and was proving too expensive on resources.

You see theres a problem when the thing is in a city, they tend to be able to kill people....

tbh the people that did this regularly tranq bears and return them to the wild, so forgive me if I think they may have had a little more insight than some guy on the internet, whos major qualification in the field is "I've been to India"
also if this one gets used to humans it will keep coming back to the city and have to be killed before it kills a person.
