can't see this england galaxy thing working out to be honest. i mean seriously playing 2 games in 2 days along with the transatlantic flight in between. if he played all of englands matches in next 3 months he'd be playing at least 22 games and covering 80k air miles spending a week in the air. Already galaxy are having to rest him.

Personally i don't know whether to have sympathy for him, he chose the huge pay packet but now he wants a bit of everything by remaining in the england set up. i think he owes his club a bit of loyalty and for what was essentially a meaningless friendly to come back to england, missing training sessions with his club, and obviously not being his fittest the next day when the people paying his wages have a game is a bit rubbish to be honest. I can't imagine ronaldinho, kaka, henry or anyone would have played in that england match when they had a genuine club commitment the next day. fair enough if it had been a qualifier but doing it for a friendly is lame in my opinion. He decided to play in the US, now he should show his employers a bit of respect and make some sacrifices.
 
yeah but look at it from your clubs point of view. you sign a guy, you're paying him well over 100k a week. then in his first month with your club he's injured for 3 weeks plays 60mins then 1 game for you then jets over to say brazil straight after his last game for you misses all your teams training sessions in order to play a friendly, and then he comes back to you obviously not fresh after a match and an 8 hour flight + jet lag plays for you and seems to aggravate the injury thats kept him out for the last few weeks. now you need to rest him.

i'd be a bit annoyed.
 
While he probably thought his England career was over, does anyone really think that the possibility of being recalled for England wasn't even mentioned when he negotiated his contract with LA Galaxy?

I have no doubt that his deal with Galaxy was discussed and signed including these terms, at the very least verbally if not in the form of a clause (effectively saying should he be recalled for England then he is free to accept if he chooses).

If that's the case, which I'm sure it is, then I don't see why Galaxy deserve any sympathy. I don't see how Beckham is doing anything wrong either. If both parties were happy enough with the terms to sign the deal that's all that matters.
 
I think both Galaxy and Beckham himself didn't expect another England call up, it's only the fact that our national team is now so bad under McLaren that he has been given another chance under desperation more than anything.

Yeh I was shocked watching SSN seeing the highlights of the Galaxy game. He must have literally left Wembley at full time, Jumped on a plane, arrived in America, had a few hours kip then took to the field again.
 
He is worknig too hard tbh. He must be knackered. Too much going on really for him to play fully for England and Galaxy too.

I think he had this in his mind when signing for Galaxy. He probably thought that his England days were over hence why the move to the USA. Now with McLaren wanting some success he brings him back. Really its not doing anything for Beckham or England.

I think that he should be left out of the squad, maybe retire and concentrate on the job at Galaxy. Then he would'nt get slated over there. There is already tension as he has to be rested and what not, due to the England call ups.
 
For a start if the MLS want to be taken seriously as a league then they should have an interational break like the rest of the top leagues around the world, players like Beckham should not have to play a game 24 hours after playing for england 3000 miles away.

I think beckham cannot continue playing for England now anyway, he's going to be up againt League 1 standard opposition for most of the season so he's going to lose any sharpness needed for England games. I would like to see Wright Phillips nail down the right wing spot now he's nearly back to his best.
 
You can tell Becks is fully committed to playing for his country and in some ways I think he tries too hard. By which I mean that he - by his own admission - plays when not fully fit meaning he is less effective in the final 30mins and he also attempts a few too many Hollywood balls (to be fair he has the talent to pull them off more often than most).

2 games in 30 hours is something even fully fit 21yos struggle to be at their peak in, never mind a crock in his 30s who has just flown thousands of miles.

I think he has kind of shot himself in the foot in terms of the 'Beckham brand' in America, when he first went over there there was a lot of publicity but due to over-exerting himself when recalled to the England squad he missed a lot of Galaxy games to start with. He actually scored on his first start but, by then the hype had started to die down - had he done it in the beginning when the media spotlight was on him then maybe he could have kicked on and raised his/soccer's profile across the pond. The trouble is, as we approach Fall the sports like 'real' football etc will come along and soccer will be long forgotten.

I think as it stands England is his priority and his new employers probably aren't overjoyed about that fact.

I wonder whether he would have joined them had he not been dropped from the England squad last year?
 
I think it's a combination of him not thinking that he'd be called up again, and the fact that LA's a perfect location for Victoria's career (if it can barely be called that) to get a boost.
 
I made the mistake of watching some of the Galaxy game this week. My team I play with during the week plays better football.
 
Blame that muppet England manager we have.

He was told he wouldnt play again. So fair enough decided to cash in while hes reasonably younger, and plays in the states.

McClaren made an almighty balls up and recalls him. I dont particularly like Beckham, but really do feel for him. Even more now this

Definatley taking on too much with the 2 teams I think.

But he wasn't bought by LA or recalled to England for his fitness, it's for his skills of placing the ball wherever he wants it.

There aren't many players who can cross a ball to the exact spot like Becks does.

Even if he's close to collapse during games for either teams, the crossing ability is still there and can win games.
 
He will burn himself out at this rate, i know that there season finishes in October but if he continues like this i can see him picking up a serious injury. Why on earth he played in the friendly i will never know!!
 
its a shame because he is a terrific footballer, i was genuinely sad to see him go. but i appreciate that he was forced out of the club and was very glad to see him win La Liga last year.

you cant totally blame Mclaren, that is an injustice to the flak that Capello should be taking for effectively scuttling his Real career and basically forcing him down the "other" club route.

i think becks needs to sit tight and rest up, play good couple of MLS games (his employer fwiw). and then when england come a calling play the games to see if he is up to another tournament if we make it)
 
He should show a bit more respect to the people that are paying him a ridiculous amount of money, and retire from the international game.

Obviously he will be missed, but he's gone for the money over the game. After being dropped from the England squad he's clearly thought he'll just get what he can out of his last few years in the game.

Now a chance to play for England again has come up he wants to have it all? Sorry David, you burnt your bridges when you took money over football.
