Becoming a bus driver?

Our bus service in currently on strike and has been for nearly a month. It makes for great reading all the raging on their FB page :D

Question is, how long before we have driverless buses?
Judging by the standard of driving of some of the D&G Bus drivers that struggle to negotiate my estate I’d say they are already driverless :D

I frequently used to nip home in my artic when I was working nights (usually I’d forgotten my sandwiches:o) , yes it was a little tight in places but the number of cars that have been hit by their busses in and around my street astounds me given I was in a much longer vehicle yet had no trouble at all....

Tachometers measure engine rpm.

Tachographs are what records duty, driving and rest time, the days of flouting these laws are over, you won’t make good money by doing so because any employer worth working for would have you out on your ear as soon as any wilful infringing of the rules was discovered, the reason for this is if your caught flouting the law the vehicle operator is at serious risk of losing their operators license and were you working for somebody willing to allow this then you’d seriously need to consider your choice of employer!

My son in law regularly gets replaced by another driver when he's only a few miles from home.
The best case was 2 miles from the depot but he still had to be replaced because the owner won't risk it.
He delivers cement.

How it should be done, I wonder though, does he get picked up when he’s out of driving time or out of duty time? - if it’s the latter it’s actually illegal given he no longer has duty time left to get home (by definition usually in a company vehicle) - I know a few who’ve been caught out by that one!

Agree, a Local company to me who operate the National Express contract in this area skirt the law very close to the bone, I know of drivers doing back to back shifts (illegal in its self) and being expected to drive a company vehicle home at the end of shift (required because duty finished at a different location to start of duty) all of that days driving of company vehicles should be under Tacho and reported as such, it doesn't. I know for sure after seeing some drivers paperwork and letters from the company in question that this happens on a daily basis!
