im currently juggling two jobs (Sainsburys and Sub Prime motor finance rep for fathers company).. but i want out of both!

ive always been interested in joining the police! now is there any current officers on the forum that can instruct me on how to pursure this desire?

ive visited the national website and it tells me there are no current vacancies in the northumbrian police? do i have to wait until a position becomes avaliable or is there anyway to apply immediately.

edit: im 19, will this cause any problems in applying?
i have 10 GCSES and 2 ALEVELS also.

thanks in advance..

Not an officer but a dispatcher in the control room so work wth pcs and have an application in to be an officer so if you have any questions I might be able to help!

The main way to get in i was always told was to apply to the Met, they are always looking for PC's, then after a couple of years apply for a transfer to a division closer to home. Think you can do the beat local to where you grew up, but you are not allowed to do it during your probationary period (i.e. first two years)

Must admit it has been a while since i looked into it though.

If you're white and male you probably don't stand much chance - seriously.
I know five white males who have been waiting for 3 years.

Dunno, my brother-inlaw got in second time round fine :)

But I do know what you're saying, I currently have an application in at the moment. The fact that they have to get a % of minorities seems an absolute joke... Best man or women regardless imo.

Oh and you can apply to your home force. But can't do you beat in your local town as far as I'm aware.

Last thing I heard, the Met were accepting transferees only and not new starters.

I wouldn't lose sleep over it if you can't get in. It's a cruddy job with cruddy pay and cruddy hours. If you want to do it then good on you and I wish you the best. However there are plenty of otheer excellent jobs out there especially with your qualifications.

Nope. Not patrols/on the beat etc... Think about why. You might know people. People know you... etc..

My arse, imo. This might be a regional thing but its certainly not national policy.

They won't stop you from getting in if you're white - the sort of people who tell you you won't get in are the sort that are hardly likely to socialise with a non-aryan enough to get their opinion on the recruitment process ;).

One of my mates moved from I.T. to be a policeman and he's absolutely loving it, good on him too. Go for it if you're keen, it's a hard job but unlike a lot of people here I'd say it's a proper career with damn good prospects if you stick at it.

Good for you mate.

Ahh, was about 8yrs ago i last thought about it, only to be turned down yet again because my doc had wrongly diagnosed me as having bronchitis as a kid, and at the time most forces wouldn't take on people with Asthma/Bronchitis due to 'related illnesses that can occur at older ages' even though i wiped the floor with all the other trainees at the physical stuff.

Cruddy how ?

Shift work sucks ..... part and parcel though.

Pay is not fantastic, but a PC with 10 years service gets 32k. Not great, not crud.

i hope your coloured and female, else you dont stand much of a chance these days. hate to say it but its true, all the red tape is about now is recruiting more and more ethnic 'minorities'.

ive always wanted to join up but il leave it a few years gain some life experiance. as for grades that you asked, well most if not all forces have their own tests and training.

Currently 7 months into my probation with Strathclyde police, not sure if the entrance requirements are different between Scottish and English forces but if you need any specific info i'll try to answer your questions. :)

The law certainly is.

I heard that prisoners are not entitled to a solicitor ?
