Wotcha.

Been clearing out my room today and found my brothers old weights sitting on top of my cupboard so I thought that I'd see if I could use them and get a bit of upper body strength. I suppose it will almost be a bit of a novelty for me to get some, as I've never had any. ;)

OK, so, basically, what workouts can I use them for? Apart from the bicep curls and pushing them straight up into the air (I'm not going to be punching through the ceiling, I've just tested that) I don't really know what else I could use them for.

I have 2 x 2.2kg disks, and another 2 x 1.1kg. Total 6.6kgs.

ok firstly theres no such thing as only upper body strength, to make good gains you need to do everything.

secondly the weight you have their is no where near enough, do you mean 6.6 on each one? or on both?

A pair of dumbbells are the most useful piece of equipment you can have.

you can choose a muscle then choose dumbbells and it will show you a workout.

hope that helps :)

As your just starting out, i wouldn't worry to much about isolation excersizes such as concentration curls, i would go with compound excersizes to build all over strength quickly.

things like:

Squats
Deadlifts
Military Press
Bench press

are your best bets, you could occasionally throw in a isolation excersize such as a concentration curl, but i wouldn't bother just yet.

They're only like mini barbell things (or are they called dumbells?) and I only have 1 which means I have the 6.8kgs on that. I cant really do the squats and deadlifts with them obviously, but I can kinda do the military press and push them vertically into the air and the concentration curls.

I might pop over to Argos and just get a new set, but I wouldn't want the huge bar as I've got nowhere to use it or even put it.

I do a fair bit of swimming and cycling, so I have some strength, but the 6.8kgs that I've done a bit of work with since the weekend seems to be about enough at the moment. THey always says push your muscles (dont they?) so I might invest in some heavier ones in the future
