Bee Hive in Soil?

I will leave them bee then. :p

I'd love to see the hive though and how they've made it inside the soil. Wonder if I can get a small camera to poke in.

If they ever abandon the hive or are collected by a bee keeper, you could always pump the hole in the wall full of resin or liquid cement or something, and then dismantle the wall/garden to get it out once set. Then turn the result into a modern art sculpture.

Bumble bees are usually quite placid, even more so than your average bee.

If it were me I'd just get on with chopping down the tree. If they did take offence, which I very much doubt, then I'm sure a quick google for a local beekeeper and a call would help you sort it out. Even if they just came round and put some powder in their hive whilst you did your chopping.

We need to help the bees at the moment. If they do continue to die off at the current rate, we'll be screwed. They pollinate most of the stuff that ends up in our food chain and do it for free. Without them, a lot of normal foods will become very, very expensive.

Bumble Bees. The big fat ones. Not the slim honey bee type.

leave em alone they won't bother you, just be careful how you take the tree down so it doesn't collapse in the direction of the nest, not for the sake of upsetting them, just it might damage the nest.

Then most of these comments are irrelevent.
Bumble bees live in small colonies and sometimes alone (so sad!!).

They are not kept by keepers. Bees are.

Interesting fact:
One common, yet incorrect, assumption is that the buzzing sound of bees is caused by the beating of their wings. The sound is actually the result of the bee vibrating its flight muscles, and this can be achieved while the muscles are decoupled from the wings.

From Wiki.

A friend of mine had the same issue and he tried dowsing the area with water (spray) which failed. He ended up calling a professional pest control company to deal with it.

If they were wasps I would get rid of them, but bees I'd just leave them alone. If you are worried about working close to them, just put on some thick clothing and cover your head and face.

NOOO bees are awesome.

They'll very rarely hurt you / disturb you. Only time ive been stung by bees was when i put a stick in their hive at my granddads house (i was like 7). Other than that ive walked through pretty much swarms of them unscaved.

They're dying out, so if you leave them alone they should leave you alone, and you won't have to endanger them any more.
