Bee keeping...

We had a woman come to college and give us a talk on bee keeping (I'm doing animal care).

Most people found it pretty boring and the woman was odd to say the least and didn't really want us to look at her bee keeping equipment.

I get why people would want to do it and it is a massive help to the bee population but definitely not for me.

Very true, Most of the time they are not ill as such, they have just run out of fuel.

This is particularly the case earlier in the year when we still have chilly mornings and on windy days where they can end up beyond their point of no return.

Give them some honey/sugar water and after a few minutes their Rumble Bumble engines will be refuelled and they are good to go...

I'm a bee keeper, though unintentionally, they made a nest in my lawn and now I can't move them, and also don't want to because of how important bees are

Just give them a stern dressing down and explain that they are on your property and not paying rent. They will see the reasoning and leave in due course. If they don't then use fire or some kind of bee eating animal from Africa to dispel them. Finally, a stern letter to your local MP regarding the problem should see them buzz off if all else fails.

I would like to help out the bee population, get a couple of hives.
But I would only do it if I had a couple of acres of land to keep them as far away from my ****ing house as possible!

Was stung by a wasp as a kid, maybe be racist, but I'm don't trust any of those flying ********.

I would love to do it and have the room at the end of the garden, but with two young kids it's just asking for trouble.

My Dad has a huge lavender out front of his house and you literally brush through it to go in, it's covered in bees. Nobody has ever been stung by them.

Garden variety bees are pretty timid creatures.

Many many times, the worst was when a bee got in the suit, the not knowing where its going to sting you and given the most space is around your face, not nice. Its ruddy hot in bee suits too as I like to where a thick layer under the suit to stop them stinging you through it.

Well, I have to say.....you're braver than me. :cool:

I love bees but I'm still a little wary of them. In fact, that reminds me; I got stung by one about three years ago, but fortunately, I had some bi-carb in the kitchen and the pain just melted away. Tbh, the worst part was noticing this bee crawling about on my foot than actually being stung. :eek:

Now that is a good idea. I've seen them struggling in spring and I've always popped them in a sunny spot figured they needed warming up a bit never figured they need refuelling

Wasps aren't bees. I'd happily have a hive or two if I had the space but wasp's I'll nuke the buggers from orbit.
