are these the ones that cost £1.99 a pack which you find dozens of hanging by the meat fridge unit in sainsburys/somerfield?

if so well yeah they may have lots of sugar but mmmmmmmm they are soo tasty :D
 
There are a lot more than that available in England.

Here in Geordieville I can get at least three prepacked...Plus two of my regular butchers do their own.

Hey Penski, which local butchers are doing it? Any do decent South African style stuff? There used to be one on Coatsworth Road, but he closed not long after I moved across the river :(

And for the record, I can think of at least two companies off the top of my head - The British Beef Jerky Co and Nobby - you know, Nobby's Nuts - they do Nobby's Cuts now - saw them in Morrisons earlier this week.

My 'regular' butchers are in Morpeth and Berwick - been using them for years :)

A south african guy I used to work with used to bring in Antelope Biltong every time he got back to the Uk from SA and it was fantastic much nicer than the beef one he used to bring as well

If I'm not mistaken, there is a slight varation between the two? However, Biltong is also beautiful. My mates Dad is from SA and get's the family to send it over :eek: Great stuff though, just don't buy the rubbish from the SA bar in Covent Garden. The pepper flavour was like eating pencil rubber, nothing like the real thing.

The jerky I've found in shops (ie. Tesco / Asda) again, is pretty tasty. Oddly enough, I bought some from a popular online DVD/CD blank media company. It came in cubes instead of slices and it was gorgeous. They hailed it as an alternative to a packet of crisps. I must have eaten a few kilos those few days :eek:
 
Can't understand why Bernard Matthews hasn't cottoned on to a gap in the market - turkey jerky

Anyhooo, my son loves the supermarket variety and also the Nobby's cuts ones, so we are going to try and make some as it sounds really great.

Yeah, there is. Biltong can be any meat and it's really just variation of Jerky.

Penski, which butcher in Morpeth, since I'm going to be there for the first two weekends in October?

I think when you're in Morpeth, you should allow me to Paypal you some funds and purchase extra ;) or our dear penski can do that for me ;)
