Got a letter in the post today.

I was flashed doing 36 in a 30. Pretty peeved but i'll take it on the chin!

As it's my first time though, i've been given an offer to go to the Speed Choice Programme. Obviously i'm going to go to this instead of taking the 3 points!

My question is though, has anyone done it and what was it like?

Slap on the wrists for me! :o

ouch, still havn't got mine through from end of feb when i was flashed. was in a hire car though so might take a while.

Could be then, i was caught by avon and somerset police and offered the course in Keynsham. Was a case of turn up and watch a few films, take part in some audience participation stuff. nothing to hard, some of it quite informative actually. wasnt heavy about 'SPEED KILLS!!!11' or anything, just informing you around the reasons for 30mph limits in certain areas instead of say 40.

I was caught last year doing 33 in a 30 limit and as it was my first time I was offered the same choice, but as I do not do that much driving now I decided to take the 3 points.
The fact that taking that course was another £60 and I would have had to drive 140 miles to the area I was caught in, as they would not allow me to go to a local course, persuaded me to take the 3 points.

Doing you for 33 in a 30 seems extremely harsh... especially with the supposed "tolerance" levels? Was that by camera or by a copper with a radar gun?

I really enjoyed the speed awareness course I went on at the end of last month!

It wasn't put across in a "YOU SPEED, YOU ARE MURDERER" way, more of an informative and interactive discussion.

I didn't get to do the practical part though :(

I was flashed doing 36 in a 30, and I went along to the driver awareness course.
It was a lot better than I had expected and the people were really nice.
I don't know if it was a freebie, or I stole it, but I got a nice 'Dorset Police' pen. :)

It was buy one of those fixed roadside digital cameras.
I was talking to the passenger instaed of concentrating, so no complaints., my own fault for not spotting the big yellow box.

The Truvelo ones you mean (quite high up)? I'm seriously considering investing in a Road Angel now, as while the Tom Tom is OK, it doesn't beep to warn me I'm over the limit, and I'd rather not spend more time looking at the satnav screen or my speedo than the road :S

I've done a speed awareness course. Consisted of some short films, couple of talks, some stats and a test at the end (a bit like the theory test) which compared you to the courses average safe driver.

I quite enjoyed the course to be honest, some interesting facts and the people running the course kept going on about speed itself not being dangerous, just inappropriate use of speed, which was refreshing.
