Went to Spar after work and woman asked if I was over 25 hmmm, you have to be 18 to buy alcohol legally , 21 maybe ? nope TWENTY FIVE

I look a couple of years younger than my age, I was 26 on Saturday, good job I had my DL on my or I would have not been able to have 4 cans and chill after work.

What sort of backwards nanny country are we living in.

don't you know its the 18-24 year old's that are creating all the drink related problems in the country, about time something was down about it.

*yawn*

TASK 25 has shop workers ID'ing people who look 25 or younger to save themselves a large fine & sacking (currently £5000 in Scotland).

Take it as a compliment and move on :)

the over 25 thing is fairly common. They'll still sell it to you if you're over 18, but if you look younger than 25 they will require ID.

What difference does it make though, what kind of crazy person doesn't carry ID around with them?

you have to be 18 to buy alcohol. You have to look over 25 for you to buy alcohol with no ID.....IDing used to be 21, then 23, now 25. Its just so that after a while people dont get offended at being ID'd.

P.S that last bit by me sounded slightly xzibit-ish haha

Last time I was asked for ID was when I was 27 in asda 13 years ago:( like someone has mentioned already the fines for someone serving under 18 is a lot. If i was serving alchohol I would be very cafefull about who I sold drink to.

lol im 18 wanted to buy some beer with mates went to the shop showed my ID and the guy said i needed to be 19 to buy alcohol ;D lol went to the tescos and bought the same beer and saved 50p per can... :) but i do look lik 14-16 :)

Most offies these days have a policy of asking for ID if you look under 21, purely as a precaution, as do most super markets.

Some shops have the policy of asking if you look under 25.

Happened to my wife in Sainsbury's just yesterday, and she's 27.

It's quite amusing to hear the excuses that people use sometimes to try and get served even after they've had ID requested, usually something along the lines of "...but he served me last night" in a whiny voice or "I've just had my 22nd Birthday, honest". It's pretty simple, once ID has been requested they aren't likely to suddenly be swayed by your protestations so you might as well give it up and just go get the ID.

companies get cheaper insurance if they impliment the 'ID everyone' or '25+' rule, ive seen old grannies get ID'd trying to buy tabacco, the old lady just laughed it off assuming the checkout girl was being funny.

Form what i understand its all in place for the implementation of the National ID Cards as i think that you will have to use your national biometric ID card to use public transport or purchase alcahol/tabacco etc..

I have a funny feeling that they will that they may not make the National Biometric ID card mandatory, but they will basically say if you dont opt for it then you wont be able to fly/get a loan/bank account/buy alcahol etc, (just as you cannot work in an Airport without one at the moment) time will tell i guess, i know at the very least our IDs are going to be increasingly required as its also a way to acclimitize everyone to show it when asked.
