Been off the booze for two weeks....

Well done, you realised you needed to stop drinking and you did something about it.

Going to a wedding was a good test for you and you passed! Keep it up and make your kids proud.

I can relate to the learning sleeping again, do you find your having more vivid dreams now?

Well done op!

Remember to do it for yourself, not the kids, your partner etc. The people in your life will benefit massively anyway, but its your life and your choice how to live it.

Congratulations! This calls for a dr... :p

Interesting, just out of interest are you a parent? I only say this because I am far more willing to do things for my children than I am for myself.

Seriously Quink, congrats. Keep going, your kids are worth it.

As it happens I gave up drinking 2 and a half weeks ago. While I wasn't drinking anything like the quantities that the OP was drinking, I was drinking far too much, far too regularly.

I read Allen Carrs 'Easyway to Control your Drinking' and have found stopping much easier than I expected - I'd highly recommend it OP. With my own experience I can understand where the OP is coming from. Particularly about the sleeping - I didn't realise just how little quality rest I was getting until I started getting it again!!

Well done OP, especially managing at the wedding! It's hardest when you're in a situation you would normally have drunk in, and where others are drinking.

25 units, so thats like a 0.7 bottle of vodka each day?? How are you alive?

I had an uncle who polished off nearly a bottle of whiskey almost every day for the last 20 years of his life. He died at 78. I don't ever remember him being sober - He was drunk literally all the time - from lunch time (at work) till 11/12 every night.

At family get-togethers - he would drink a bit more than a full bottle over the course of the day.

Well done mate you can do it, I had a drinking problem for about 6 years, now been clean for just over 10 months and it has had such a positive impact on my life, barely have time to post here now :o, I'd probably recommend telling your doc you've stopped as he would probably advise on some Vitamins, I recommend at least vitamin c and b1 (thiamine) as they are usually prescribed after long term alcoholism and they will help.

I replaced my alcohol with bottles of carbonated spring water and Kia-Ora lol, much cheaper and much healthier and it's nice to be cable to keep the habit of grabbing a cold one from the fridge :p:)

Good luck.

I gave up booze since 1996 that about 17 years i havent drink for long time seem nice for change... i was too much drink b4 gave up, it lots difference after gave up, i only drink tea (mostly) soft drink.. i dont drink coffee cos of stomach problens.

If you are experiencing temper issues, consider going for a run everyday.

Nothing crazy like trying to run sub 40 minute 10k's, just start with a 20 minute, 2 mile run. Enough to warm you up, get you sweating and importantly, release the feel good endorphins.

Take the chance to really turn your life around. Exercise is the best medicine you can have.

Well done op, recently cut my drinking back as well, im down to a couple of large scotch every 2 or 3 weeks now. My motivation is purely the gym and mass gaining but i feel so much better for it.

Keep up the good work and enjoy the benefits of it!
