Hey guys,

So I'm toying with the idea of a new build this autumn - my current rig is largely unchanged from circa 2008 (Antec P180, Core 2 Duo etc.).

However, in the last ~7 years, cases seem to have become uber minging :p

I'm just wondering what you guys would recommend for a chassis? Cases I've liked in the past include the P180, Silverstone FT-03, Lian Li X500 and X2000, old school Coolermasters etc. Had a quick browse and some of the BitFenix, NZXT and Fractal Design cases seem cool.

Most important factors for me are nice and clean exterior looks, closely followed by noise insulation and a clean internal layout (for cable routing etc.). I'm also thinking mATX might be better, as I'll probably be running zero hard drives (i.e. M.2 SSD only) with a mid-range i7 and perhaps an R9 Nano.

I await your expert suggestions :D

Cheers,

Su

I recently built a new system (in sig) and to save cash I reused my P182. My only reason for wanting a new case was for some USB 3 ports, and the bottom 4x HDD caddie is annoying when changing HDD's (I have mine filled with storage drives). Other than that I still really like the P182 for its styling.

After lots of looking around for cases I eventually bought a Fractal Design Arc Mini (mATX case) for my GF's PC not long ago and really wanted to do the same for my PC when I upgraded. I was very pleased with the cable management, build quality and the general layout, for example the HDD's bays! I was also keen on the Black/White interior.

I also really like the "Define Mini" which looks identical but has a door, and also the Define R4 which is an ATX version with a door.

I am sure every one has their own preferred cases but that's just my two pence :)

I just bought a Thermaltake V21.

Absolute joy to build with as every panel comes off to leave just a skeleton, and amazing fan/radiator potential. I like having my mobo horizontal too. Got the glass panel on top so I can look at the insides at my lesiure and not be distracted while I sit at the desk. The finer mesh on the sides have magnetic strips on the edges so can be removed easily, and the thermaltake logo is also magnetic so can be repositioned for whatever orientation you choose (even removed if you don't like it).

My only gripe is that the mobo tray doesn't have a cut-out for changing cooler brackets on the back of the mobo.

Unfortunately OCUK don't sell it so you'd have to look elsewhere.
