Been put in a rubbish position at work - venting

"Refusing an offer
You may lose your right to statutory redundancy pay if you unreasonably turn down suitable alternative employment."

Something to bear in mind, but obviously that depends on how "suitable" the field engineer position may be.

If they're offering training etc. for the field engineer role, and the pay is no lower, then I think that could make it slightly more complicated to claim redundancy :(

Started job hunting, CV updated etc so just need to find something now...

As for the situation, a number of people have been affected across the country (several hundred) and there's a barrage of questions we're waiting on answer to - the union have gone ape and put back the same argument that I did initially (as far as I can tell the union weren't consulted before doing this).

If I 'volunteer' to move, I can buy myself about 2 months or so as the move won't be immediate, so hopefully I can find something before then. Not willing to take redundancy with no job to go to at the moment, got my wedding coming up so don't want the worry of not having a job...

Yes, it's quite a large lump sum - but I don't particularly want to be forking out for and arranging a wedding whilst unemployed and looking for work.

In an ideal world I'd take the money and go retrain for something else out of the sector, but c'est la vie.
