Been to look at a Mini Cooper S

as said above, if the wife only likes the colour etc, get a cooper with the chili pack which looks the same but doesn't have a supercharged lump with poor mpg and high tax/insurance etc!
however if you want a bit of fun yourself....
price seems a wee bit high imo - but then again 1 owner and FSH is worth a bit on one of these - if i was you i'd be looking for one with the sunroof, makes a big difference to the interior space, I spent ages looking for one

We have had a couple of minis, one being an S convertible and a Cooper Park lane. Liked them both but the S was much better and its only for work and back and the odd drive out so MPG is not an issue and we already pay £190 odd a year for tax so nothing new.

She is a petrol head and loves to play every now and then.

Looks expensive to me. I've seen R56 Cooper S for £7.5k. Might not be as high spec but newer generation.

Went back today to see what deal we could come to, he wouldn't budge on part ex price and would not come down on price of the mini, so no sale for him today. Must have a been a good month for them!!!

They don't have to discount good condition Mini's they sell themselves for this reason there's probably very little margin in it for him in the first place.

Personally I think the R56 Minis aren't as good as the R53s (unless it's a proper JCW R56). I drove both back to back and the R53 was way better in my opinion.

Performance wise I didn't feel a great deal in it, on paper the r56 is faster and more economical than a r53.
Handling wise the older cars have a bit more feel, but not to the extent where I would say they were way better.

R53 minis are better than R56 for "fun driving". due to being lower to the ground.

£6500 is over priced, plenty around for £6000 or less

I only have experience in an R56 Cooper, but I know a lot of people have their preference!

Would like to try both eventually but for now the Cooper I have does me fine.

Maybe a JCW one day ;)

Agreed.

I owned 2 R56's before settling with my current R53 works convertible.

It's a better made car providing you go for a model that's from 2005 onwards as they spent a lot of money improving the car. Sure it still has some faults but nothing major.

The build quality is much better from what you can and can't see ;) Also, it' far easier to mod than the R56 making it a modders dream :)

Supercharger FTW :)

The R53 was revised in 2004, July onwards.
Look for the rear fog light in the bumper, as the earlier ones had the reversing light there.
