I'm pretty sure that if I went into my street at 6am and beeped my horn, shouted, and revved my engine while bashing bottles together I'd get an ASBO slapped on me. Yet every Thursday between 5:30 and 6am the bin men rock up and wake everyone up with the worlds loudest truck.

I don't want to be that moaning neighbour, but I'm seriously considering speaking to the council about it. It takes the p a bit I feel. Has anyone had any experience (and anything done about it) with this sort of thing?

They don't start round here until after 7am, they get to my street in the afternoon so no bother to me. I can see how that could be annoying though.

Bin men are noisy, that's no issue. Its the fact they arrive at a time so early that it would get anyone else doing it stopped.

I don't live near any depots, and in the middle of an estate, so they must be hitting their first stop considerably earlier than when they get to me.

Or common sense then dictates they start with due to the fact they are the furthest from their depots?

Just leave them alone, wouldn't want to have to take my rubbish down the tip each week!

Well, for me is the tesco express and their deliver EVERYDAY lol but tbh when you dont think about it, you get used to it and is not that bad

Hah I know what you mean - usually its not too bad but sometimes they wake me up during that period where there isn't really enough time to go back to sleep but earlier than I wanted to get up and its annoying. Anyone else definitely wouldn't get away with making that kind of noise that early in the morning here.

I thought the reversing tones/beeps/robot voices on these sorts of vehicles shouldn't be used before 7:30?

That does seem very early, ours don't start until 7:00 (time we must have the bin out by) and get to us after 8:00. Not much you can do though :(

That's a point, I think we have a bin deadline of 7am or similar. Surely they shouldn't be collecting before then?

No issues with the noise when they are on my road at 7.30. They are annoying though as I'm usually leaving for work at that time and they block the entire road.

I too was wondering about this, every Monday morning at around 5:30-6:00 I get woken up by a commercial rubbish lorry collecting right outside my door. I live on a culdesac type road which is only about 200yards long but there is a side road that runs behind my place and behind some shops. The collection is for them as the house bins are done during the day on Thursday.
Its really quite annoying for sure, its just that little bit too early for work too. :(

Closed windows don't help for me, double glazing can only stop so much sound, a rubbish lorry close by gets through.

If you do follow up with your council on this it'd be interesting if you keep this thread updated.

What time would you like them to turn up? Bearing in mind that they have to get around to everyone and back to the dump/landfill/recycling for processing.

You ARE being that moaning neighbour, it's a part of life, you can't have everything your way, learn to live with it. It's only a bit of racked from some guys taking your filth/rubbish away.

The gf made a complaint to our local council a couple of times about the glass recycling lorry that comes round at 5am every other Friday. You can hear it coming and going for 15 minutes or so as all the glass breaks when they dump it in the truck. Unfortunately Fridays just happen to be her late shift so she can sleep in until 11am.

The first time they apologised and said they would review the rounds. The second time they got quite funny with her and basically told her she had to put up with it.

OP - as annoying as it is, don't expect them to do anything to help alleviate the issue.

I think the reversing warning should only be used between certain hours. Isn't that one of the HGV laws?

I don't mind bin ben doing their job early. The problem is them shouting to each other, the sound of their DAGADAG DIESEL I ARE A TRACTOR truck and the stupid reversing alarm. Don't shout to each other, change the truck engine to petrol or electric, and get rid of the reversing alarm and it would be fine.

Someone in our house got up this morning at 3AM, and started up the 3tonne Hybrid 4x4 with 3.5L V6 petrol, reversed off the driveway and drove away... didn't hear them at all. Diesel's should be banned :p.

No problem with it at all, it's comforting lying in my nice comfy bed while knowing there are other people outside who had to be up hours before me.

I get it every morning, i live right in the centre of Keswick, right near loads of pubs / restaurants, and i get that between 6-7am, beep beep, vehicle reversing, then the loudest smashing of empty wine / beer bottles pouring into the wagon! It's annoying, but i doubt i could do anything about it so i don't let it bother me lol.
