Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (06.09.2024)

Saw this today. Solid 7 out of 10 for me whereas the original was 8 out of 10.

As with a lot of legacy sequels there were a lot of references, jokes about and homage to the original film. Got a bit of background about Beetlejuice himself, what he did when he was alive, how long ago he was alive and how he died.

The funny bits were obviously when Beetlejuice was on screen, he had a lot more screen time than he did in the original which was a + point of the film.
Keaton played the role just like he did in the original, without him both films wouldn't be the same and I can't imagine anyone else playing Beetlejuice in future films.

I look forward to a third film but not in 36 years time, I can't imagine me living to 94. :p

PS I think Beetlejuice's baby's name was Chucky ;)

Copy pasting scenes and dialogue from the original is pretty creatively bankrupt in my opinion.

Alien Romulus is guilty of this atrocity too.

It's a hard pass from me.

Just watched it, it was pretty fun, not as good as the original as bj was more energetic in that but then he was younger, and not as much a perv but still enjoyed it a lot. Id say about 7 out of 10. The OG was 9 out of 10 id guess.

Seen it last night, I did really enjoy it although there are some really goofy scenes.
It is worth a watch for sure but they should have made a squeal about 3 years after the original.

I just find a lot of Tim Burton movies all style over substance really. There's some whacky stuff in this, but it seems so disconnected from other parts.

Monica Bellucci character basically says "Where's Beetleguese" over and over for most of the movie, soul sucks random people and then appears at the end and does nothing. William Dafoe's actor/cop as well, pointless.

Tim Burton is definitely punching with her, and is well known for putting his girlfriends in movies, but this feels like he just wrote a random part for her - Which he used to do in his earlier films for Lisa Marie.

Predictable as it was, I did like the
Ghost guy who had killed his family. I guessed they were ghosts when I noticed the Dad was watching a CRT tv

6/10. Competently made, but not my cup of tea. My wife liked it a more than me.

Enjoyed it for what it was, too many subplots and characters though that made it feel like different stories bolted together instead of a consistent flow. If you watch 1 and 2 back to back Keaton brings the same energy which is impressive considering his age now.
