Before and after dyno results on the 335i

Dr House, does your car have any traction issues with the increase in torque and power? My friend has a 135i and is also concidering an evolve remap but is concerned his car will light up the traction control every time he plants his foot, the E-LSD in the 135 is pretty good but he has doubts it will be much use with the increased power.

His other plan is get a Quaif diff and then save for a map.

Of course there is, but you really think a stock M3 will ever "annihilate" a 400bhp 335i? A 400bhp 335i vs a stock M3 will be very close, around a track, in a straight line wherever.

Of course, the M3 would probably be the winner, due to the extra power and better all round setup. It will also be more crisp to drive, be more exciting and grin inducing, but in terms of raw lap times, it would be very close.

Certainly no where near "annihilation".

It will be closer to "annihilation" than "very close".

The quaif diff makes a massive improvement to the more powerful or torquey BMWs. I would do both (this first if necessary). There were quaif kits on ebay for sale for around £1000.

Birds do them too. Ironically, fairly easy to fit too.

I can't really say as I have only driven the car once since I mapped it and that was in london traffic. Im going back to sheffield tomorrow so I will let you know then.

I think a LSD would go a long way toward levelling the playing field - still a way to go though :p

First thing that comes up when you type in "335i vs m3" on YouTube.

This video is quite a decent illustration of what i have been saying. People throw around phrases like "oh i annihilated/destroyed him" or a personal favourite "Yeh, it looked like he was going backwards when i put my foot down" without even knowing the kind of power and performance you need to really "annihilate" or make "someone look like they're going backwards".

The M3 is a fantastic car, no doubt whatsoever, but it simply will not even come close to "annihilating" a 400bhp 335i on track or off, or most other 400bhp performance orientated cars.

At most, an M3 would give the grin factor, the "crispness", driver involvement and control that you would not find in a 335i, that would translate to a small advantage on lap times.

Like i said before, a 530bhp GT-R would "annihilate" a 400bhp 335i in pretty much every situation. A 414bhp M3 would not "annihilate" a 400bhp 335i.

This should never have really been up for discussion. On no planet, ever, would a 400hp tuned 335i get ass whooped by an M3, even more so with your average drivers at the wheels of either.

Personally though, I would prefer an M3 for the exact reasons Gaygle pointed out. It's more crisp, more grin enducing and generally more fun. However, if I wanted frugal motoring and still have some enjoyment, it would be a tuned 335i, it's just never an M3 though :)

Agreed.

I'd take an e92 m3 any day over my 335i (which I love).

Any reports of overheating issues with this map ? I keep reading about 335i's running hot after a remap. Seems a new upgraded oil cooler and intercooler are often recommended. I see the BMW performance upgrade seems to concentrate mainly on cooling with only a small power hike.

Chatting with a friend of mine today at Donington and he told me his 1M is running 420bhp and I believe close to 490lbs of torque (I might have that bit wrong) and he confirms it's very very quick.

A 1M with 420BHP, well thats gonna be mmmmm interesting. :D

Has he taken it round Donnington at all? Be interesting to see how it compared to 911 and CSL. :)

What does the 1M actually weigh?

He has a GT3 with a number of serious tweaks for track use, he was out in that today though today was dangerous as some guy blew a rod out his block on the siting lap (Evo) and spunked oil all over Coppice! We had a mega off coming out of Coppice but thankfully missed everything...it could have gone well wrong but all good in the end.
