Evening All,

i would appreciate some feedback on the below before I place the order, it's been around 10 years since my last PC build and whilst I have done a reasonable amount of research, i'm not very knowledgeable on all the options available. Th PC will be used for gaming such as Assetto Corsa which i would want to run at 1440.

T-Force DELTA RGB - DDR5 - Kit - 32 GB: 2 x 16 GB - DIMM 288-pin - 7200 MHz / PC5-57600 - unbuffered

Cooler Master MasterLiquid 360L Core ARGB CPU Liquid Cooler - Dual Chamber Gen S Pump, Superior Radiator and 120 mm ARGB Fans, LGA 1700 and AM5 Brackets - BlackCooler Master MasterLiquid 360L Core ARGB CPU Liquid Cooler - Dual Chamber Gen S Pump, Superior Radiator and 120 mm ARGB

Gigabyte B650 GAMING X AX ATX AM5 Motherboard

Not sure what storage yet but seems quite straight forward to choose.

I have an existing Corsair air 540 Artic White ATX cube case, whilst old I assume is still fine to use? although items like sata hard drive units i assume will be redundant. I also have a power supply which i think is 750w, this is 10years old but assume will still be ok?

Can you tell us your overall budget? For this game I would do everything I could to fit a 7800X3D (see here @ 9.30).

You can still use them, though I'd put any newer (or long loading, e.g. MMO) games on a SSD.

Budget is circa £1,500 really, always tempting to get the next level up but then the budget goes out the window :/ The 7800X3D is around £130 extra, is it worth it for gaming? Is this a good deal - https://www.**********/products/msi...eed_clicks&utm_content=surfaces_across_google

Ahh. Take a pic of the underside / fan, if you can, I might be able to tell from that.

If you look at the Assetto Corsa results in the video I linked: yes with a capital y.

We can maybe save the money on your parts.

By the way, the XFX 7900 XT may be too big for your case.

I can potentially save a bit more money if i was to get the XFX Speedster MERC310 AMD Radeon RX 7900XT Ultra Gaming which is £724, any major difference between this and the one you provided above?

My case is a huge box tbh, how big are modern graphics cards these days?

When I checked your case here it said that it has clearance of 320mm, but the XFX 310 is recorded as 344mm here and the Sapphire as 313mm here.

I can't say I'm afraid, very unaware of XFX products, but you might be interested in this review).
 
my psu is a ocz technology model ocz700sxs2 700w total power.

The card you recommend is slightly shorter at 313mm with the case having a max gpu length of 320mm so on this basis the money I would save from the other card would be offset by having to buy a bigger case.

I’ve just noticed on the motherboard the max memory of 6400, I was hoping to get the fastest ddr5 memory within the budget, is there much notable difference between 6400 and say 7200?

It might be worth measuring it yourself as you never know if these things are 100% accurate and you might have a little leeway.

If you're buying the X3D, it doesn't particularly care about memory speed, which is believed to be because of the huge cache. The non-X3Ds do care.

I don't know much about 6400 versus 7200 with Ryzen because before the AGESA update that increased memory speeds, it wasn't easily possible to go above 6200 and AMD themselves suggested that 6000 was optimal.

Looks like your build above is where I will go.

I assume the motherboard are much of a muchness as that price range?
 
If the psu is 10 years old
Which sounds right since its an ocz psu
I would personally replace it
£1500 of new hardware on a 10 year old psu
Don't think I would chance it
I have a 12 year old ax860i
Really top tier psu
But it's relegated to testing and jumping pumps now
Didn't want to risk it in a new expensive build
Just a personal choice though

It's the only full-size B650 motherboard in stock @ OCUK at that price, so there's not much to debate :)

If I were to, the features are similar to other midrange B650 motherboards, but check the spec to make sure it has everything you need.

I don't know anything about it and I can't find any professional reviews, but I'd echo the sentiments above: £1500 on a 10 year old PSU might not be the wisest thing.
 
From other build sites, the automatic recommendation is for micro ATX, what do I gain performance wise from a bigger board? Apart from more slots etc

No. OCZ PSU's were not that good back in the day. You are running the risk of stablilty problems or the system not booting. Worse case scenario = PSU fails and so does your new hardware.
This is the Cheapest OCUK have that I would trust with that hardware. Not ATX 3.0 though if that is your concern.

Thanks to everyone who has offered advice and various opinions, I put together the below, admittedly sourcing from a couple of places, but the grand total is £1,546.02 incl. delivery

I have stuck with a most of the advice above, i did opt for different memory based on some reading into what goes well with the X3D. Last bit before i commit is the CPU cooler, will this suffice?

It's a very good budget cooler
Will it suffice I guess depends on your
Idea of suffice
7xxx cpus are allowed to run as hot
As they like to get max performance
According to AMD 95c is ok
If saw my cpu at that sort of temperature
I would think my cooler wasn't sufficient
Regardless of what AMD says

Assuming it would fit in your case
I would always go for more cooler than actually required
Which also gives some future proofing
So personally I would look at the peerless assassin
It's not much more cost

Again though it increases your cost a bit
I would look at an atx 3.0 psu
Again for future proofing
Though if it's another 10 years before you upgrade again
Then fair enough probably won't need atx 3.0
 
Is there any benefit it getting a new case with more general fans? Does this help with cpu cooling at all? Equally, I measured my case yesterday and it is approx 330mm max for a graphics card, but if I took out one of the case fans it would fit a larger card, leaving 1 fan at the front (instead of 2), 2 on top and 1 at the back, would that make much difference?

The plan is to get for a decent upgrade now in the hope it does last me a good time.
 
Yes airflow matters
when it comes to cpu temperature
but Pretty sure that's a decent airflow case
Think it's 140mm fans in there?
Would removing 1 make a big difference?
That's kind of hard to know
Got a feeling it would be OK but can't guarantee it
As not personally used that case
