Beggars

Tell me where the food kitchen in Nottingham is then? He wasn't your run of the mill tramp by any means, he was a frail old man.
Maybe he WAS your run of the mill tramp, who is now also a frail old man.

Which in a way proves my point: Some one who lives in the gutter receiving handouts their whole life will probably die in the gutter. No home, no pension, any income goes into booze. You are not doing them any favours by giving them money.

If you want to help, donate money to schemes addressing homelessness and poverty.

It depends - I'll give food or coffee if I believe they're genuine otherwise it's "Sorry, no."

I had an interesting chat for about an hour with one chap who was homeless because of a relationship breakdown. Each person is different, each has their own story - even if it is a heroin habit. But the scammers get the same treatment as all scammers.

I see your point, however, I do already donate. This was a one off. I suppose in what you say, ie. giving to them means they don't need to do anything about, it's just one big vicious circle...

I knew someone (financially sound) who would dress up in rags, and busk in town with his guitar.

Typically he'd make around £80-150 a day, then go home to his house

I was in Sunderland interchange last week at about 22:00 when this man who didn’t look very dirty asked me if I was going home to which I said yes, he then asked if I wanted to buy a day pass for £1 I told him no as I have a monthly pass

The next day I was in the interchange again when I seen the same guy up to my friend and told him his gran had stole his ticket and needed money to get home

What's his name and address? I'd have no problems reporting him for fraud.

Maybe I'm just cold, but I don't feel any remorse for these 'homeless' beggars. I have never given money to them. They all claim money off the gov anyway!

I do feel sorry for people tooked up in sleeping bags in the lashing rain though.. but most of them spend there money on booze - in this day and age, they're homeless by choice.
