Hello,

I've always had a bit of an interest in photography. So looking at getting a bridge or even a DSLR, but with a fairly tight budget of about £250.

Is this possible, and what should I be looking at? Willing to go second hand, if that helps...

Though the Canon EOS 100D catches my eye, is it worth upping my budget?
 
I would avoid a bridge camera. There are some very competant compacts around these days. For Landscape work a high end point and shoot with manual controls and a 24mm FF equivalentry lens works OK for begginwrs not wanting to print huge.

Otherwise even a low end DSLR is good for landscspes. Landscapes are.easy on equipment but difficult on skill.
Nikon DSLRs do a little better at landscapes than canon bodies due to the sensor but for a begginner the difference is not huge. Something like th e Nikon 3300 does very well, as would a 3200, 5100, 5200 etc

I've been looking at the rx100 now, which I think would be a good first step towards photography. Seems to sell for not much less, meaning it's a fail safe buy too :)
 
There is only one option you defo need to get the Nikon D3200 I just got one from a hight street camera specialist and got cash back on a pre paid mastercard and I am astounded at the quality of the camera and its photos it cost £289 then I got £20 cash back on top it came with the new 18-55 vr lens . If you can sacrifice the vr lens a local high street catalogue shop will have them around £270. I have gone on snapsort and it out specs the canon 100d,1200d and even the 700d I had a eos 550d and felt like a toy and couldn't match this . The D3200 has a beginner guide mode that tells you what settings have been changed for each setting like blurry backgrounds or taking photos in the dark or even fireworks so you can get the hang of it and experiment for yourself.

As for lenses their pretty much the same I would say both do budget and high end ,after watching loads of YouTube videos I have come to the conclusion that canon are best for video if you search digitalrev on YouTube he has loads of videos comparing all brands and he is very funny

Awesome, very excited. Been holding off for ages, because couldn't justify an expensive DSLR. Almost every time I want a camera, carrying about a DSLR would be an inconvenience too. So it looks like it sits inbetween and still allowing me to learn the basics.
 
Not that I want to necessarily agree with the maniac up there ^^^ yes you! :D But I recently bought a D3200 boxed as new and practically never used for £246.50 and so far I really can't fault it.

What swayed me in the end was the user guide that has been vital :)
